For many years I remember Bob Hoover coming to the Cleveland air show in his Strike Commander and doing his show with both engines stopped in the air. Every time I have a dead stick I remember what all he did with his plane....it's all in power management he would say. What a great man !

Wow! Did that bring back some childhood memories.. I met him once many years ago I think at the Limerick airport in Pa. I was always amazed at what he could do in his twin engine shrike commander. He would pick a spot on the airfield, shut is engines down, loop that thing power off, land and park it on the spot! A true aviation legend. Thanks for the post.

I was 12 years old when I first met Mr. Hoover, he encouraged me to continue in aviation which I have. funny, during our time we spent at the airshow I met him at he gave me his autograph and turned to a gentleman standing behind him and had him sign my ticket for the airshow, I was so smitten by Mr. Hoover I didn't look closely at the other signature, that man Pappy Boyington was a legend as well. That ticket is something that I treasure and will pass on to my childern and hopefully grands someday.
