Hi friends, I write to ask about this motor, because one friend have interested in one motor of this type...
It's reliable for practise 3D and F3A? The razon because He select this, is the price, one YS or OS is very expensive! and nowadays in Argentina, the economic situation isn't very good... Thanks, Good Flights!

You can get a ASP 1.80 at Hobby City for a pretty good price. I don't know what the duty situation is in Argentina buying one from China, though. the 180 weighs only a few grams more than the 120 and should provide quite a bit more power. The 120s aren't known for being a good 3d motor around here since the weight is pretty high compared to power output. The ASP and Magnum sold by Hobby People have a good reputation where I fly. I see them mainly on sport or scale type aircraft.

Texasbird pretty well summed it up
I have a 120 that I use as a sport flyer. Very easy to use and dependable but it is very heavy for the power output if you are going to 3D |

So far in my experiences with Chinese glow engines, is the engine itself works OK. But the carbs are a crap shoot. In all the Chinese engines I have messed with, the needle valve tends to suck air, sometimes really a lot of air. So now I don't bother running them at first, but take some silicone grease and carefully grease the threads on the needle valve and the o-ring (don't get grease on the tapered end) and put on a small piece of silicon tubing and then thread it back into the carb. I then position the silicon tubing piece to also help seal off the joint where the needle valve screws in too. Usually I don't have to seal up the low speed needle any, but it could be a problem sometimes as well.
With a needle valve on the carb itself, you cannot see it sucking air, but with a remote needle valve you can see a steady stream of air bubbles that messes up the needle settings for the engine. Anyway, that is my only complaint against the ASP engines or other Chinese engines made in China. |

Earl, I have an OS 61 that did the same thing, leaking around the remote needle valve. I changed o rings and finally changed to an older type OS carb to get it to run right. So the Chinese aren't the only transgressors. But I agree about the Chinese carbs, you can get a good one or it can be very bad. But I have found that the four stroke carbs are usually pretty good compared to the 2 stroke models.
