Default Check out my amp draw with A60-18L/CC110HV/24x12APC?

Hi All,

I flew my 50cc Extra260 wit the data logger hooked up today and am worried about the results. It seems a few of you guys are using the same setup so I was hoping to get your thoughts.

It seems like the Amp draw it way too high for the motor (which is rated at 65amps for 30 seconds). As you can see I exceeded that during much of the flight.

Questions:
Do these results look normal/acceptable?
Should I be worried about burning up anything with these types of results?
Should I prop down to a 24x10 or 23x?

I have just started building a yak that is the same size (50cc) and was planning on building it with identical hardware. In fact the only thing i have left to buy is the mototr. Therefore, one of the goals of this post is to determine if I should consider a slightly diferent setup.

As always, thanks in advance for the great advice,

-Brian

I am using the same setup in my 89" 3DHS AJ SLick. I have found the APC 25x12.5 to be the perfect prop. I pull about 90amps with a fresh back. I am using Zippy 20c packs. So if your using higher c rated packs that may be why you are pulling more amps. Hacker motors are very under rated. I flew the other day in 100deg. weather and the motor after a 7min flight was only 160deg. I am no expert as this is my first giant scale electric. I got most of my knowledge from this thread on RCgroups that talks about this exact setup.

thanks cjdscratch. however, i am still wondering if i should be worried that i am drawing too many amps for this motor. if i move up to a 25 x12.5, won't i draw even more?

the plane weighs a tad over 18 lbs and the yak i am considering the same setup for will be very slighty more.

How is the power? If you have more than enough then try propping down.
However, I, too, think the Hackers are WAY, WAY under rated. So long as the motor receives proper cooling and does not get smoking hot you needn't worry.
Are you running 10s or 12s?

the power is perfectly matched for the plane. not over the top but enough to put a grin on my face whenever i go vertical and not leave me wishing it had a little more.

i am running 12s.

i have a cf 24x10 i was going to try but i can not find a spinner that will fit over it.

oh yeah, also, i haven't put a temp gauge on the motor because i keep forgetting to put it in my field box but the motor is cool enough to touch when i land. so i wouldn't say it is smokin' hot.

I have 100 flights using this motor on a 10S setup in a 15 pound Tunnel-Vision...

I was unofficially told by some people who "Know Their Sch!T" that if the peak power is under 80 amps... you will be OK...

with a 22 x 10 APC prop... I maxed out at 78 amps with fresh TP's.....
100 flights... all good... but I fly 3D with a lot of power management....

On the A60-18L:

We have 4 of them in the fleet. All are flown on:

12S 5000mah 25-30C
APC 24x12E on hot days and somtimes APC 25x12.5E on cold days
CC 110HV ESC

Aircraft weight 17-19lbs.

Flight time, 8-9 minutes.

Been doing this for 2 years now, it adds up to a lot of flights, never had a thermal failure of a Hacker A60. Very, very pleased with the setup.

Cool! Thanks. I'll use the same setup in the Yak54 then. I am in Washington State so we don't even know what a hot day looks like. Now if only I could find a 18L in stock someplace. I have tried 4 places and they are all out. I guess I need to order a 24x12 from you guys.

BTW - Why don't you sell the 25x12.5APC or the Xoar wood props anymore?
