Well guys,, I am having so much fun flying my 34% Turbo prop laser, I have decided to put the T 34 on the back burner for now and build another laser, but this time the 40%.
Being a Turbo prop engine, which has absolutely no vibrations, I plan to make this airplane as light is it will be possible, I'm shooting for 28 lbs. Today I have cut the formers and started to lightning them up as I will through out the building process. Roger

Tentatively, its the one on the other laser but I have been offered the use of a Wren 54. Roger

Hi Roger,
Looks like you are hooked on Lasers as I am on Ravens, I think it is great to keep developing a concept to its potential, all the best for an exciting new build. I'm hooked too ! What is the step up in power with the bigger Wren, and how does that equate to an IC Petrol engine ? And, what prop would you turn ? I've just opened a nice Hawkes Bay red to celebrate your build... not bad too !! Cheers, Barrie. |

You never know what Roger may fabricate in his shop for himself next! (Did you get my e mail last Thursday? I do see you've been quite busy! I understand too if your back burners are on simmer. No real rush.)brusty- - Wow some Raven! That plane in your avatar really looks BA!

Yes it is a nice airplane to fly. But as you, my good buddy, Hayes Hutchins has a few Ravens also. The bigger wren (54) if I use it is known to be a bit more powerfull but I don't know by how much. If Hayes chimes in, he might know more about this then I do. And we are running these engines strickly with our Forgues/Hutchins Ignitions spark ignitions which we co developped. I am looking at using a 28 * 6 prop for this airplane , as I don't need the speed. I might purchase one from Seth propellers of Germany because they are the only one with my specs . but I still have time for this. As the build goes forward Barrie , don't be shy to offer any suggestions, this is what this thread is all about .... Roger

After only three 7 to 8 minute flights, I am hooked, this is by far the best flying airplane I have had, of course I am no Christophe paysant Leroux , or QQ by any means but I can tell the difference. I am now wondering why there not more people flying this airplane? Probably because its not trendy or not what the big guys fly, its a well hidden secret.... And I forgot to mention , I am still using only 77 ounce Multiplex servos with plastic gears, but with the use of boost tabs, One per airlerons and one per elevator... I will also use only one servo per aileron and elevators on the 40%, they will be a different servo only because I am running out of servos. Roger

Glad to see you are building the 40% Laser. Im guessing, with all the lite mods, that the final weight will be a lot less than 28#. My guess is 25-26#. The larger plane is easier to fly, and you will enjoy it also. Regards Jack

What ever happened to the 35% Yak on a 80 with the cooling blade with boost tabs on the surfaces?

![]() I flew it only a few times , and I have to tell you, it flew better then expectations , using small servos with boost tabs and the cooling fan ran flawlessly. But we have a tree that likes to stretch its limbs once in a while and usually when you are not paying attention. so you guessed it, it has gone to model heaven ![]() Roger

Today, the weather sucks and had other things to do but I did manage to get into the shop, and get a bit of work done.
A lot of what I have learned building the 34% will find its way in the 40%. For instance, the small guide wire retainers I made for the other airplane will find its way here since they work perfectly but this time I have made the adjustment part out of aluminum instead of brass, cutting crucial tail weight down. The cable I am using for the tail guide wires are of Kevlar (150 lbs) I also made the foam cutting templates for the wings. I was lazy on the photos today ![]() Roger
