Heh, I noticed that too.... I think he means that he does not use epoxy as an adhesive in his planes, but he does use it as a lay up resin for fiberglass.

That is correct, Jack does not use epoxy as an adhesive on any plane he builds.

I don't either for that matter, I use CA and carpenter's white glue.

I am using polyester resing when making the wing tube sockets.

and gorrilla glue for the hinges.

Hello Mike
Asking questions is not a fearful negative response! Trying to prove someone wrong about an opinion or a fact based post is a negative post. There is far too much of that on these threads. In my humble opinion.

I certainly didn't take anything negative about Jack's comments. My aircraft are epoxy/composite based, whereas I took it that Jack's are built up. Ease up on the side comments fellows and let Roger and his helpers get on with the build, there's lots there for all of us.

Keep up the good work Roger,

Regards, B.

Thats exactly what I hoped he meant...was not trying to be negative, just wanted clarification.
And for the record, Bob(Sensei) has tought me much of what I know, and he/we also only use CA to build/repair our wood airframes also, and also use polyeurothane glue(gorilla glue) for sheeting and hinging. And different types of resins for layups, depending on what we are doing. Recently I acquired a 3m Compy 260 that was damaged, he has been teaching me how to repair this type of structure with out gaining weight with heavy layups. Half oz cloth and med. ca and alot of cautious sanding. I too enjoy learning from the more experienced guys, but I have also learned over the years how to smell BS, and firmly believe in show me, dont tell me. With that said, I like Lasers too so carry on..........

Since my neighbor lady is on vacation, I will have to wait for John , my flying buddy to come over friday to cut the airfoil of the third wing panel.
So in the meantime I have done the last two wingtube sockets and the two fuselage wingtube sockets

Also just now working the trailing edge and leading edge of the two first wing panels. Later will start cutting the ailerons and fitting the aileron leading edge, hinge blocks before gluing these.

Roger, in post 297 it looks like your trailing edge is 1/4 balsa stick, in this picture it looks like a taperd sheet trailing edge? What am I missing, did you do this one different?

Tony, what happened is I cut a square piece of balsa about 5/16" , glued it to the trailing edge, then simply sanded it until it was right, lots of elbow grease

Same with the leading edge, shape and sand.

Roger

Here I marked off the aileron and the boost tab and started cutting the boost tab.

In my experience for repairing epoxy cowls and wheel pants, ca does delaminate quickly, don't know why. So now I use epoxy to repair epoxy parts. All I meant to do was inform builders that epoxy just adds unnecessary weight to a built up airframe. If anyone is building this airplane, or is going to build it or any other plane from scratch, It has been my experience that epoxy adds a lot of weight. And heaver planes fly at a higher angle of attack causing more drag, and increasing stall speed. Just trying to help a little from what I have learned.

Hi Roger
You never cease to amaze me with your craftmanship, those wing panels are just to pretty to cover. I had a friend back in the 60s that built one of my designs and just cleardoped the entire airframe, was beautiful, one could cover the fuse and tail feathers with clear monokote I suppose. Just some ramblings from an old bull shiper.
