Hi Roger here is the tail rotor on my big heli. 8mm shaft 525 rotor diameter. The design could easily be modified for 10mm, can send the drawings if you want.
BTW the main rotor shaft is 17mm.

Thanks Rod, I appreciate the offer but I am wanting a main gear swash plate for 10 mm or bigger to do what I want to do in my setup,

But thank you any way..

Roger

I hadn't thought of that Roger, very cool, cyclic pitch on the prop would do some really interesting hovering/3D manouvres
I suppose you would do a flight condition mixing to the rudder elevator and throttle servos.

Rod,
The first thing of course is to get this working perfectly on the ground, I don't intend to have it have a large pitch change,
I will be using a heli governor to control the prop speed.

Anything else will depend on application ....

Don't forget I am doing this specifically for Turbo prop engines because of the turbo lag.

Roger

I still think a purpose designed tail rotor type system would be more appropriate. A 10mm shaft is the size of a .30 heli and the head is designed to run at 2300 rpm max.
Here are the parts on my tail rotor, note the 4mm metal rod ends and heavy duty 7075 ali parts. The 8mm shaft is hardened and ground 4130. This operates well at 5500 rpm at over 20 degree pitch range with a 16 kg servo.
BTW I see some helis are now using balance weights on the blade grips.

I wonder if you would need to control the feedback loop with a servo slow on the fuel pump controller so you didnt get occillations or overspeeding rpm.

Anyway good luck with it. Very interesting project.

Hi Roger
I designed and built the heli based on TSK .60 mechanics. With your machining skills you would have no trouble making these parts.

More work done on the cowling today, its getting there, and started cutting metal for the prop hub.

The picture shows the Solo prop blade and the Solo prop hub, the brass part is the bushing to be used on the wooden prop blade to ride in the new aluminum hub I will make later.

Nice work Rod,
the one thing I would like to know more about is the swash unit you made .

Hi Roger
Here is one of my original drawings for the tail rotor swash plate. I will turn it into an exploded Solidworks model for greater clarity if you like. I just need a couple of days to get around to it.
The central bronze bush is pined to the control yoke. It would be pretty easy to edit this drawing for 10mm bearings.

Solid works would be great , that is my cad program of choice,

Thanks I appreciate it.

No problem Roger. I'll edit it for the 10mm shaft.
