I've worked very slow but I finaly finished my Cub. The weather wasn't good so I didn't have the maiden yet.

I added some extra holes for cooling: before and after:

I also installed a kill-switch: the 'Zeus' from 42% Products:

When I started this build, I promised some pictures to compare the 1/3 scale to a 1/2 scale. Here is my TWM 1/3 scale Clipped wing cub compared to the BH 1/2 scale Clipped wing cub:

The final thing I have to do is install some pilots. I found some pilots scale 1/3, but they have to be painted. I will install them after the maiden. Here is one of them sitting in a C-ARF Corsair:

The BH makes the WM cub look like a glo plane!

Yes it does, but the 1/3 Cub is still big enough for me .

Today we had some good weather in Belgium so I had the maiden. All electronics worked fine, first time I use a kill-switch and it performed perfect .
At first, the DL-111 would keep on running, it died at idle. Tuned the L-needle 1/2 turn and than it runned fine. A LOT of power, way to much for this plane. I'm using a Menz 28x10. Take off at 1/3 throttle within a few meters, flying around at 1/3 throttle, did a loop with 1/2 throttle and didn't go any further yet. This engine will not fly a lot at full throttle on this plane. I think I can fly up to 30 minutes with my fuel tank .
I had all throws at the maximum and not enough expo. I will have to work with dual rates and fine tune this a little bit. I will check the manual for the recommended throws.

Now it is time to check everything and have some more flights.

Here are some pictures from the flying field:

I installed the pilot, this was the last thing to do to finish the piper. The result looks good in the air
The plane flies very well and has more than enough power with the DL. It will hoover slightly above 1/2 throttle and has enough power left for a good pull out. Total weight of the piper is 15 kg but it feels very light in the air.
I'm very happy with the plane

You can fly a cub from the front seat.

You just have to be careful as it does get a bit nose heavy and if you slow it down you can tell the difference on how much you have to hold the stick back to keep the nose up. Wouldn't try any stalls or spins though!

Being more nose heavy, wouldnt it come out of it easier?

I was lower than the pic looks. Infact the guys I fly with were in awe that I actually brought it down low inverted. Funny thing is this plane is easier to bring low inverted than not especially on windy days.
