Default MIG 44 OVT

Just wanted to show off my latest new toy! Just to be different... I am calling it a "Mig-44 OVT"
Complete with thrust vectoring, Smoke and a Merlin M-160! AUW should be no more than 28 lb and the Merlin will be dialled up for 40 lb thrust, so I cant wait to get this one in the air for some serious 3D jet fun

Cheers- Marty

Would have been more realistic to give it a chinese designation. Looks cool and different though.

Hi Jet FX. Could you tell me where you purchased the thrust vectoring system you are using and how does one know if a particular jet model can take thrust vectoring or not?

Thank you in advance,

Regards,

Robert

Making the vector pipe system myself actually...

Most jets could likely be modified for vectoring if you have the desire to tinker a little. I think basic idea here is that the scale/size of pipe outlet is large enough to fit vectoring mechanism into. Any sport jet with an externally mounted turbine would be easier. Tamjets offers an off the shelf 4 way system to suit the Rookie and Eurosport (as below). Tam would likely be able to custom build a system to suit most models...

Finally finished the Mig 44 and test flew her recently. I ended up installing an EvoJet Booster 130 (32 lb thrust) this seemed a little more sensible given the AUW ended up being 26lb. The maiden flight had a few dramas with rudder flutter being evident and one of the rudders departing mid flight. All ended well however and the landing soon thereafter was uneventful. turned out to be result of stripped nylon servo horns, at first I thought it was actually the servo's metal gears that had stripped, but it was actually the nylon horns themselves. My fault as I usually do generally install metal horns on all primary servo flight controls. In fact and in hindsight after shes repaired I might just fix the rudders instead and be done with it as they are not really required and being they are not manditory on our jets here in Oz. Prior to the flutter issue she was flying great and the Booster 130 proved the right power choice to go with. By the way the Mig 44 is set up to fly on tailerons alone to keep it light and simple, no ailerons or flaps and she does not seem to mind this either at all and is still roll responsive enough for me.... sorry no inflight shots at this time, maybe next time out. Heres a pic of the turbine install and my pilot though

Cheers- Marty
