Default Besenyei Deadstick at RBAR Photo Shoot

Hey guys, looks like Peter Besenyei had to make an emergency landing near Niagara Falls due to loss of oil pressure. He was forced to make a deadstick landing in a field. This was during a photo shoot along with Nigel Lamb.

Wheels probably just dug into the soft soil and flipped over. Nothing he could do in that case. I'm glad he's alive and well. He's one of my favorites.

I spoke with Mike Mangold up at Reno last weekend, and he told me what happened. The aircraft was using oil lines that were very thin and fragile in an effort to reduce weight. One of them was rubbing on the firewall and ended up chafing all the way through. He described the oil lines as being very thin rubber tubing (think fuel tubing) with a plastic mesh sleave inside to keep it from collapsing in on itself. Apparently several guys were trying it instead of the good Aeroquip stuff as it saved 5-6 lbs. I'll bet no one tries that again.
