Default hysol 9462

Well I tried using Hysol 9462 for the first time to bond the carbon fiber control horns in place on my composite plane over the weekend and, as of today it has been Four days and it still has not set up.
When I started to squeeze out the Two parts thru the mixing tube it came out brown so I kept squeezing until I had a uniform beige color. That took up about 15-20% of the tube. I then applied to the control horn slots and parts and taped them in place.

So is this normal? do I need to scrape, cut and sand all my slots oversize to remove this stuff and start over using epoxy with fiberglass and micro ballons?

Thanks
Mike

I've never trusted the nozzle. Epoxy needs to be mixed. Hysol is no different. The end color should be just a shade darker than the white that comes out. It sets in 24hrs or less

Purchased my glue, gun, and tips from TBM, and following the product sheet from the manufacturers website, made sure mine would come out before I put the nozzle on it. You have to trust the nozzle. It has equal pressure forcing it out of both sections. You can see it being mixed (changinging colors) as it moves down the nozzle. It has no other place to go but out.

I would check the date on the tube itself and see if the shelf life has expired. Tried to purchased Hysol E90FL for my canopy at Grainger and the stuff was expired 7 years! If it hasn't cured I would dig it out and do over. Good luck.

Why not use 3M DP 420 or 460 (20 minute and 60 minute worklifes respectively)? They both offer 4500 psi shear strength and can be purchased from www.aerographix.biz

I've used hundreds of the static mixing nozzles and never once had a bond failure due to improper mixing.

I have also used these mixing tips for years in the industry I am in. the only thing you must do is when changing the old tip to a new one is to make sure both holes in the cartridge are clear before installing, otherwise you will not get the correct mix as they are not all equal. do check the exp, date. Good luck . I would clean it good with alcohal and start over.

Thanks for all the tips.....
I found a spec sheet at loctite and their saying it can take up to 5 days at 77 degrees to set up so I decided to wait another day. It does seem to have set up more today

I've been using Hysol for 4 years now and have never had what you describe happen. This morning I glued the front rail for my swb tray into my 2.6m YAK. Glued it in with 9462 at 8am, came home at 6 and it was cured, not a full cure, but it's not coming out. Just glued the back rail in this evening and I'll bet money it will be cured in the morning.

I think there is a problem with either how it was applied or with that particular tube.

I've been using the short mixing nozzles for quite some time, the long ones waste too much product. I always squirt out some before applying. I'm wondering if either you have a bad tube or possibly you got too much of one part in that batch when you glued the horn in.

If it's not cured in the morning, I would take the horn out and reapply using another tube or another product. If you really want to test the tube in question, squirt out equal amounts into a mixing cup and mix like we do epoxy, let it sit for 8 hours, if it's not cured, there is a problem.

Temp does matter, but I've used this product when my garage is 50 and when it's 75 and I've had it cure in the same amount of time.

I pick up my Hysol from mcmaster.com - http://www.mcmaster.com/#loctiteŽ-9462/=2dmth7

$11.58, quick easy shipping.
