Default 40% carden cap 232 wings not double beveld?

hi

just picked up this plane up very nice, have heard about how caps are great 3d planes. but the alierons are much smaller than on my 260 and yak, the stabs and rudder are fine, but the trailing edge of the wings are a straight edge unlike other cardens. i was told by someone who may or may not know that 30% deflection is plenty for 3d on a cap, which is all i can get out of them anyway, he said not to worry that cap's are desinged that way, and that it will still hover and do all jazz just fine. just want to know your experience with this.

thanks, brad

Mr. Blizzard: I've owned three 40% Carden Caps. The wings are not double beveled because the plane was designed and plans drawn before the 3D movement hit the US. It was one of the very first 40% kits you could get your hands on back in that day. The airleron surface area is smaller than your other planes due to the same reason. Once 3D hit, here comes the big surfaces and the large throws. Your post above says that you are getting 30% deflection, do you mean 30 degrees? If it's 30 degrees, you'll be more than fine for 3D. Your answers are waiting for you "in the air". Put the plane up, and see if you have enough airleron throw to do whatever rolling 3D manuever you want to do. Decide after that if you want to go back in and bevel the front edge.

Hope this helps,
Dan Baker

hi

your right i ment 30 degrees, thats about all it will pysically move maybe 33 degress if i push it. so in your experience for hovering and blenders, rolling circles etc it should be fine? still waiting on getting my motor mounted 3w 150. my understanding is that cap's can get similar results as larger surfaced planes because of the design. they need less surface on the alierons to get the same results. the rudder and elevator move as far as you want and are double beveled.

thanks for the help, brad

Yeah they were designed that way in the plans. You should have plenty to do what you need.
