Default Remote Receiver Location

My 1st gasser and I’m installing a JR RD922 receiver with 3 remotes.

1 and 2 I am placing on left and right sides, one angled 45 degrees forward and one 45 degrees backwards i.e. across like "X" if viewed from the side of the plane.

OK, so now it seems that I should install one remote horizontal and 90 degrees to the fuse. The top of the tank looks really convenient and I can see it with canopy on.

Can I do this safely or should I keep it away from the petrol?

Regards
Gil

I found the best location is at the back of the canopy.
Glue in a piece of ply/balsa across the fuse say 1 inch from the top.
Mount your sat rx on this.

Here is a picture of first install with drawing over of final location.

My experience with with JR 2.4g is that the greater the spread of the receivers the less likely it is that you will have any problems with loss of signal. Digger's suggestion about putting one up in the turtle deck is a good one - I've mounted one there in my last two planes. Its also not a bad idea if you can get an extention and mount one in the fuse down towards the tail and away from all you other gear that has potential to "block" the signal. I think that 2.4 is much less likely to suffer from interference but is much more susceptible to shadowing of the receiver etc. As such, I would probably avoid mounting it next to the fuel tank but someone might have a more qualified opinion on that one.

On top of the tank is a BAAAAAAAAAAD idea! As is anything within 4-6 inches of anything else that attenuates signals, like aluminum or carbon fiber wing tubes or tuned pipes or cannisters.
Yes, gasoline attenuates 2.4 signals - maybe not straight gas, but when you add the oil it does.
Every antenna should be mounted as far bak as possible, away from all the stuff mentioned.

Top of the turtle deck behind the canopy is a good place

THanks all - Very Useful input!

In the fuse, as far back behind the canopy it is. Will have to cut a little viewing window in the floor of the canopy to see the main receiver so I can see if the led's are flashing after landing (indicating brownouts etc.).

All the best

For one of the locations, I use a 36" extension and install the remote rx as far back in the fuselage as I can mount it. Away from the fuel tank, carbon fiber wing tube, cans/mufflers, engine, and any electrical components. I have always had excellent (very low) readings on that particular rx.
