I flying a 27% Hangar 9 260 with a DL50.I have used a hydromax nimh 2000ma battery for the rx.
Is this battery a good choice for this set-up? I've been told by one of our"resident experts" that this was not the best choice. Thanks for your ideas on this. |

i use those batteries for my glow planes and they work out great. there are some people that still use them for there gassers. for me i use 2 1100 mah a123's for my 50%er. they have a higher out put for all the high torque servo's. make the upgrade to a123's or lipo's, lithium ions. the a123's dont need a regulator though. im sure the nimh will work but will need a lot of charging at the field, but im not sure on how they will handle the high loads of the high torque servo's.

I use a 4.8 nimh pack on my ignition and it works just great. It's a 2000mah pack and at the end of a day of flying, 5 to 8 flights it only takes about 500 mah to top it off. I also only charge it at 200mah and cut it off at 6 volts. I also run a 2000mah nimh pack on the rx with no problem. You just have to have a real low impedence pack. On this plane I'm running 4 5945s and one 5955 and a metal geared mini on the throttle. Nothing wrong with nimhs if you handle them right.
Just my opinion don't ya know.................... Tom |

I use two Spektrum 6.0V 2700mah Nimh packs in both of my 35%ers and one in my 30%er.
No issue at all.

Not a good choice at all. Not enough capacity, not enough "burst" output, and not enough amperage at a steady state. They also have a high self discharge rate, can't be fast charged, and have a relatively short shelf life. Step up to A 123's or double up on batteries. What you have now is a great ignition battery but not one that I would hang the life of a 50cc plane's flight system on.
