I put on a Kroma 100 on the front of my WH 35% Sukhoi this weekend. And after all day yesterday and a couple hours this morning , i have come to realize that making a baffle system for open muffler type exhaust on a twin , in a round cowl , was a challenge and a half! I was thinking to myself , that IF i was running headers and cans , it would have been sooooo much easier! oh well , i got the damn thing at least fitted and she looks pretty good. I'll get some pics put up a little later this evening. I plan on doing a little epoxy and glass work for strength and paint it up to match the cowl and she should be good.
Any of you guys struggle a little making a baffle system on a stack exhaust? I found that after you make the baffle , in order to be able to slide the cowl on and being able to get the mufflers through & slide it on....was a pain in the ass! Post up some pics if you have them please. I'd like to see what others have done in this situation. |

Yes it can be a pain for sure. It was one of the reasons I decided to go with pipes on my EF 110" Yak. The two piece cowl like on the QQ python makes it a lot easier.

Model Aviation, May 2009, page 77 top right...
You think YOUR baffle is a P I A....There's a 289 twin under all that black carbon fiber stuff...It works VERY well...

I will have to grab that issue again and re-check it out Ralph. OH...and by the way , THANK YOU for getting me that twin ignition so quick the other day! I appreciate it big time Ralph! And CJ.....yes , you are a 100% correct about it being easier with a split cowl. The thought of actually splitting my cowl had crossed my mind more than a few times. I have always ran the header/canister method , and never had to do an open stack exhaust before , until this one. I was "thinking" it would of been easier......man was i wrong! Oh well , the hard part is over. Now all i have to do is do some little finishing touches on it , get it painted , and she'll look good. I actually learned alot doing this baffle system , so maybe next time won't be so difficult and i'll know what to expect. |
