Has anybody ever tried this. I have some friends that put some in a 2 stroke dirt bike and they said it ran like a raped ape. I have a Poulan 46cc I need some more power out of. Could it really work?

Put too much and you will really screw the engine up. We did this years ago to a 3hp go-kart engine and needless to say it didn't last much long after that. But it was fun...shot a blue flame out the muffler about half a foot long while it was running WOT!!!

Yep, the conversion guys have been doing this for quite some time...done right it makes for a very, very good combination-basically a gasoline engine without having an EI module or flywheel! It can be a very lightweight alternative.

Thanks ,converting the engine is really not what I had in mind. I am interested in mixing the nitro fuel with the gas in hopes of giving the gas a boost in power making capability. Drag cars run nitromethane I am just curious if it would make more power than with the straight gas oil mix.

Nitromethane does not sit well with Gasoline. You will need to convert to Methanol first then add the nitro.
As an alternative though, you can mix propoline oxide into gasoline for added power without any conversion except carb adjustments. |

You can safely add up to 3-4% but more than that and it will cause a lot of problems. You're better off running a high quality performance fuel. You can also run oxygenated fuel that will help.

Applydriver,
Here is some stuff I used with a 3W-120 years ago. It did provide a small increase in power and cleaned up the midrange. http://www.klotzlube.com/PDF/Tech/KL-600.pdf If you want a big increase in power, pipes or NOS are your best bet. Branwell |

Thanks guys. The plane that the 46 is on is just a little fat and with the smoke it needs a little more power. If I could get a couple hundred more rpm It would help a lot. Branwell, I will check into the klotzlube.

I believe Nitro-propane is the nitro additive of choice for gasoline as nitro-methane will not mix well with petroleum based fuels. Of course there is always nitrous oxide injection! |

I know someone who said they had a formula for an engine safe mixture but they said they forgot where it was, I'll ask again as it's been a long time.

why not try something like this... ALCAHOL CARBS.
but you'd probably need a special mix of fuel, because airplane fuel probably wouldn't work out so great

At the present time $$$$. I would like a DL 50 as I have one in another plane but freeing up the cash at the moment is not in the budget.
