Thanks Sleepy and FG staff for setting this support forum up for us.
Most folks know OMP for the profiles we've put out for nearly a decade now. Well we've finally grown up and entered the giant scale world of design and production and am glad to introduce our new 85-100cc Extra 300 and Yak SP-55M. This support forum will help me serve the FG community better by answering (or trying to answer) questions regarding all the OMP products. |

Will any of the 50cc planes (especially the green MX2) have a large enough tunnel to handle a larger canister or tuned pipe? I will be running a BME 58, which needs a pipe or canister along the lines of what a 75-85cc engine normally uses.

We have been working with EG on pipe tunnel sizes and all the new models should be able to accomodate most 50cc cannisters and pipes available on the market today. I've never put a 75-85cc size cannister on a 50cc engine but as long as the diameter is less than 3 inches you should be able to get one into these models. Worse case if the pipe is super long is that you might have to extend the tunnel further aft which would not be hard to do.

For the 58 Extreme, BME recommends these:
Pipes: MTW RE3 KS1090 Cans: MTW TD110, TD105K KS95

Lee, I am running those length pipes in my 100cc extra and it comes out behind the canopy. i have the prototype of the 50cc extra and have put a few different pipes and can's in it. I dont see even with the mod's to the pipe tunnel (making it bigger) where there would be enough room. My 40% planes barely have the room for a 1090 pipe, and i am pretty good with engines and i dont know why BME would say to run that size of pipes and can's on a 50cc motor. i would be willing to bet that you would get your best performance out of a 1060 pipe or RE 2 pipe and a good can would be the K&S 75 rear exit. This is only from my experience

Thanks, Bradley. Yeah, I thought it was crazy but they said the 58 is timed to flow a lot and needs much more volume, something a DA85 would run. Still, I can't imagine that every 58 owner has a specially built plane with a huge tunnel in a 85-88" plane.

I would tend to agree with Bradley and can't imagine using a pipe that big even on a 58 cc engine. Does not really matter what brand but the fact is still you have 58cc of combustion volume times a given rpm and that's going to be the predominant factors in a pipe. I guess if you wanted to use a really huge pipe you could just omit the fuse and strap the wings and tail to the pipe! LOL
