I figured I'd post this in the aussie forum since the DSX series are not sold in the US.
A couple folks from Australia and another guy from Ireland were here for the shootout last year and had DSX9's. They had programmable stick modes, whereas the 9303 does not. I might be in the market for a 12ch radio soon, but I fly stick mode 4 and HOrizon here in the states laughed at me the last time I asked them to switch a mode 2 radio over for me. I re-wired a 9303 to suit my needs but don't feel I should have to do that with a $1500US radio, and I won't. So I am considering ordering one from overseas if it has programmable stick mode... So does it?

12FG, 12MZ, 14MZ can be purchased mode 1 or 2.
You could purchase a mode 1 radio and in the function menu reassign rudder and ailerons.... takes all of about 45 seconds..... If you like... I can investigate mode 4 conversion negating the necessity of reassigning those 2 channels....??? |

I need a mode 2 radio, since the throttle stick remains on the left with stick-mode 4.
With Futaba, even if they don't have a specific 'programmable stick mode' function, you can still assign any channel to anything on the transmitter, even switches. If I can't get a JR radio to mode 4 without a soldering iron, Futaba might be an option. Plus the 12FG is like half the price...I just have a lot of Spektrum stuff and I still prefer some of the features it offers, so I am holding out. I would also need to know which version of the DSX12 I would need to purchase since I know that the some countries restrict the wattage on the 2.4ghz band and I woldn't want that.

-Hi, I had a 72mhz 9303 transmitter converted to stick mode 4 by you guys and now I have a 2.4 version that I'd like to have the same thing done. -we don't do that. -but you did it to my other 9303. -that 9303 was different. What you are asking involves switching wires around and we won't do that. -but that's what they said they did to my other one. -well we won't do that here. -so in other words you are saying I have to figure it out myself? -well you don't want to be cutting wires and stuff or you will void your warranty. -so in other words you are saying I'm screwed? -I guess so. -I don't get it. Futaba has had programmable stick modes on all their programmable radios since the early 90's. I shouldn't even be having to send the radio in for something that could be so easily taken care of with the push of a few buttons. It can't be but 50 cents worth of additional programming... -well we're not Futaba. -click.

Nick, I think you may be a little confused as to what we had in Tucson last year, as far as the Aussies go, Troy flew a JR 10X I think, and both Chris and myself flew 14 MZ, yes the 14 MZ has assignable sticks, I am pretty sure that the 10X does not, can't comment on the DSX 12, but Troy has one, and I think Chris does now as well, so maybe they will hop in and comment.

I know for a fact that the 12x DOES NOT have programmable stick mode or channel assignment. Since the DSX9 and 9303 are virtually the same radio, but the DSX9 has programmable stick modes, I am wondering if the same scenario stands between the 12x and the DSX12.
It was Matthew Poots from Ireland that had the DSX9. But I am pretty sure the same radio is sold in Australia.

DSX9 has the feature, I already experienced it with my own grubby little hands. Need to know if the DSX12 shares the same.

The DSX12 (in Australia) still has that stupid slider trim on the throttle. I'm assuming that would be the reason that there is no mode adjustment for the sticks.

A guy here just got his DSX12 radio swapped to mode 4. Had to send it to JR here in Japan to rewire the sticks.

Are you guys using the Freq. hopping Spektrum in Japan?
Richo, so you cannot go into the system menu and change stick modes? For stick mode 4 the throttle is still on the left, anyway. But that's interesting that the DSX9 went to the digi trim and then they went back to it with the DSX12... Futaba 12FG is only $739US - It might be my only option.

Dude, how did you ever learn to fly on mode 4?
I'm not dogging ya, I'm just puzzled. If most radios require you to cut wires and such, how the heck does one find themselves learning on this mode?! This has to be a good story!
