Default 42% Products Opto Gas Engine Kill

Hey guys,

I'm about to place an order for an AW 50cc Extra 300 combo with a DLE 55 and I want your testimonials on the 42% products opto gas engine kill. How's the quality and such?

Thanks for your help!

I just installled one a few weeks ago and have no issues. I like the LED light being mounted to give a visual confirmation that the "spark" is hot. It was easy to install and I'll buy another soon for the next project...

I have 2, 1 in my 100cc plane for more than 1.5 years with more than 1000 flights with no issue. The second is still in the package for a backup should I have a failure.

Two of us here in Vegas use them on every one of our planes ... we have the same set-up for all our planes which includes the 42% opti-kill . They also will make custom wire leads for your plane at very reasonable prices... pretty much same prices for off the shelf stuff - AND they also started making the A123 batteries in their own design which they say more closely designed for radio control - the original A123's were designed for power tools.

Our set-up for all our planes is : DA engines , Spektrum 9100 receiver/power set-up w/4 receivers, two A123 2500 batteries plus another 2500 A123 battery for the ignition and the smoke system together. We only have the little soft-start switch for the 9100 and only one other switch for the ignition.

We have this system on about 6-7 planes now from 50cc to 100cc and newest Carden custom build w/180cc (just being finished) Works perfectly and soooo simple !

let me guess----- you are putting a vess on the nose?. i used a 23a for breaking 7400 on the stock mufflers it will be alittle loud though. hopefully there is no noise restrictions were you fly. even with going over to canister exhaust the prop was still pretty loud.

You guessed it! Our field doesn't have any noise restrictions. The louder the better! I just wish Valley View sold Vess props so I could get the whole thing in one package. Oh well.

Hey guys, I went to test out my engine today for the first time and I have a problem with the gas kill. First, the LED is not shutting off with the flip of my assigned switch. I had tested the switch before and it was turning on and off fine. Now, nothing happens. Now, every time a load is put on the servos, the LED shuts off. When the load comes off, the light flickers and I hear a click sound coming from the ignition module with the flickering. So basically, when I give up elevator or actuate the the throttle servo, the light goes off and when everything is brought back to neutral, the light goes back to constant and flickering. Everything is wired correctly and the gas kill worked fine before, at least the LED did when I flipped my assigned switch on and off.

just to make sure the single side of wire the side that the led light plugs into is attached to the reciever? and the other 2 is attached to the ignition and switch. also you made sure that nothing is slaved to that switch on the transmitter? now the led will not turn on until the switch for the ignition is powered and the tranmitter switch is on. but you will get a brief spark when you turn on the ignition power switch. could you take a pic of the set up?

Thanks for replying James.

Everything is wired correctly. This was proved when I first tried the opto kill without the spark wire installed on the plug. I tried removing the wire with the same result. Nothing is slaved on the radio. It only flickers when a load is put a servo. It doesn't matter what servo. If I push the rudder servo horn a little, the LED flickers causing the spark to flicker also. If I hold the load, the light completely goes out.

I don't think a pic will help because my latter testing showed everything to work perfectly. This suddenly happened and I don't know what's causing it.

I have four of them.
Work great and easy to set up.
I have been using mine for 3 + years now.
I did have one failure.
A bad solder joint failed.
Happened at a good time, when the engine quit, i was able to deadstick it in for a safe landing.
It could have been real bad in a low hover.

what switch do you have it on. that sounds really weird. i don't see how it could be in the opti-kill. sounds like a radio/reciever issue to me. unless im just not fully understanding what is happening.
