Having flown both, the RE3's are a lot better choice. Better throttleability and better construction.
Thanks, Jim

I would go with the RE3's. I have got them in my Yak with a DA-170 and the amount of power I get is awsome as well as the throttle transition is very smooth.
Just my 2 cents. Aaron

I also have the RE3's on the 170. So far they are excellent. They are definately more durable than the Greves, but IMHO, both are great pipes. The Greves should drop in the AW260, the RE3's will take a little modification to the mounts since they are bigger diameter.

Jim Woodward, What length headers are you using with your RE3's?

I have two planes on 170's. One is on Greves one is on RE3's.
I like the sound of the RE3's better but other than that, no difference. My Greves are the original set and they have well over 300 flights on them. Not a single ounce of trouble. I bought two sets initially to have one as a spare because of the problems I saw people having with them but, I have never needed to use them. I did switch them out once just to try them out though. Anyone want to buy them?

Hi
I have a DA170 with RE3's on 360mm headers swinging a Mejzlik 29x12 Standard 3 blade prop in a Super Extra. No problems and awesome power. A. |

Are you all use just standard length 12'' headers with the RE3's?

For best results use 360mm header length which is ~14". Silver solder the extension with torch.
Stock header length are not as optimum as 14" for RE3 and DA170.

Are you still using a mej 32*10 and 29*12 3B for break in with this header length

I used 32x10 for break-in. I flew on 32x10 for lots of testings on different exhausts. For me I like the 31x12 Airmodels for performance better than Mejzlik 32x10 but you will have to do throttle management when flying IMAC to avoid 0 on sound. Prop can get loud with that combo but very managable if you just be a little creful when to hit 3/4to full throttle.
31x12 Airmodels is also a very good 3D prop with DA170 and RE3. Personally I won't worry about the prop for breakin as much. if you have the 3B, then just do the breakin with that prop. Between Greve and RE3 for all around flying, RE3 has superior performance. I did lots of testings for about 6 months on DA170 exhaust systems. I will post results of different exhaust when I complete this last phase of testing on my latest set up. Cheers, Reza
