Some people say the 46 is all the power I'll need for the Hanger9 Funtana S40 I am setting up right now. A hobby shop manager said he can do harriers and rolling harriers better then the other guys at the Field with his OS 46FX because it is lighter than what the rest of the guy's are using at the field he flies at. I have both the 46 and 61 both like new so I can go with either one. Please give me your input as to which one you would go with and why.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help you can give me Terry |

I would use the 46. my buddy used a .91FX on that plane which on the OS site says it weighs less than the .61 and the wing loading was not too good it fell like a stone actually and the big engine vibrates alot more. the 46 should be enough power to 3D. try to make it as light as possible.

The 61FX is a pretty heavy engine for the power it puts out. Unless the Funtana needed a bunch of nose weight to balance out, I would go with the 46FX.

Thanks for the replies guy's I'm going to mount the 46 instead of the 61 I have read numerous reports on this plane, some say they are one of the better 3D planes out there and some people say that they fly terrible. I'm thinking that some guy's have to big of engines and that could be part of their problem. If the 46 is low on power by the plane performs well I'll look for a OS 55AX to put on it. Another thread on rc universe a couple of guys changed the leading edge and claimed the planes went from bad 3D planes to assume 3D flyer's. If this plane doesn't perform good I plan to follow their steps on changing the leading edge. I plan to recover the plane next winter any way.

We had a 40S with the 55AX show up at our IMAC contest in basic. The guy had spent alot of time flying it and learning to fly it straight and it looked really good, in fact he managed to steal a round competing against much bigger planes. The 46 should be close on power and will keep that light wing loading.

My flying buddy was flying an Ultrastick yesterday with the OS 46fx. It has the Tower muffler on it which helps the power by several hundred rpms according to him. If you need a little more punch you could put one on yours. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJB16&P=7

Well I mounted the 46FX now all that's left is putting the receiver in , the throttle linkage and servo, gas tank and she ready to fly. Any suggestions on what prop size I should use.

12.25X3.75 APC? I hear they work for some light airframes for 3D stuff. I have run a 11X5 APC on a couple of planes. But I don't try torque rolls and harrier stuff... I gues I am showing my age.
Good luck. |

my son has a simular version of the Funtana which is the Katana 40 Free Style, this was designed for 40 / 2 stroke glow engines but we went for something that had good grunt for 3D performance which was an OS 81 FS. to me the 46 would be alittle under powered when it comes to verticals / hovers etc, maybe the 55 could be better but still you dont have the 4 stroke grunt thats needed for 3D stuff.

I took the plane out of town with me this week and worked on it in my hotel room each night after work. I have every thing mounted and the plane came out tail heavy. I plan on adding weight to get it to balance tonight. every thing is as far forward as it is possible so if it takes any thing close to 6oz I'll end up pulling the 46 off and mounting the 61 on it. then if it comes out a little nose heavy can move the battery pack back to balance her out .

Well I got home from Madison Thur night and added weight to the nose, a couple ounces at a time and at 6 ounces it was still a little tail heavy so then I pulled off the 46 and strapped the 61 to the 46 engine mount and it balanced out on the farthest back balancing point. The balancing point is supposed to be between 5 & 5/16 to 5 & 11/16 inches back from the leading edge and I had to go all the way back to the 5 11/16 point I am stuck down in Milwaukee to day thew next friday so hopefully I'll get the 61 mounted the throttle linkage rerouted and get her balance out for next weekend

Yeah, that is the best reason to go with the 61, then. A lot of ARFs I've had wind up tail heavy with the smaller recommended engine. It doesn't surprise me about yours.
