Default 1/3 Scale WM Super Cub Assembly

After reading this thread here on FG - http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...-assembly.html I decided to get the 1/3 WM Super Cub.

Bought the kit from Airborne Models out of CA, - http://www.airborne-models.com/html/...?ProductID=120

It was shipped via Greyhound, and the kit was double boxed.

All I can say is...WOW!! Looking at photos online does not do justice to how big this thing is.

I just got everything out of the box, all looks good, now it's on to putting her together. I'll fill everyone in as this build progresses, I take lots of pictures.

Not sure on motor yet, but it won't be anything over 62cc.

Throw out all the screws......they suck and the heads strip easy. Order up the sizes from Micro Fastners as alot of blind nuts are imbedded in the plane. Get rid of the tires and get some dubros also. Other than that its a good kit for the price.

Wings are done, stabs are installed (no gluing), rudder installed.

Received the engine today, went with an RCGF 62cc, I'm impressed with the craftsmanship and have heard a lot of good things out of this engine.

Im curious to see how you like it with the 62cc on it. the 100 is double the power this airplane needs.

That's why I went with the 62, almost got the 52cc twin, but a friend has a Balsa USA super cub with a DZY 48 twin and it flies it totally scale nothing left over. I figure this motor will fly the plane and do basic aerobatics, I'm not looking to hover a cub, have my YAK for that.

I think a 100 is perfect.

Its actually a 106, but whats 6cc between friends.

I think a Twin 80 would be the best engine.

More progress, had a Ohio superstar tail wheel laying around, much better than the stock, although I give them credit for going for the scale look.

Mokken,

You will like this Cub. You May have a problem with the stand-offs. I had to build a motor box to keep the engine from working loose. I run a ZDZ80B2. The firewall plywood on mine was not of the best quality. If you soak it with thin CA that might help. I have 239 flights on mine and yes it's recovered.

Thanks for the heads up,

I'll keep an eye on the motor. The firewall seems to be pretty thick, thicker than I've seen on many other arfs and the plywood as well seems to be ok.

We will see how this works out.
