Hi Americans!
I am just curious, At most of your modelflying events, why do you Americans have your flightlines organised with one boot (with net), then 25 meters, next boot (net) and so on (up to six boots along the airstrip have I seen in various videos). As I see it it with a fllightline organized like that, it is impossible to have a diologue between pilots, deadstick announcements are very hard, and if helper/pilot needs to enter airstrip to get airplane (or debris) away, u need a speaker with a booming voice to get all pilots attention. In bigger events in Sweden we have one area (with net and approx 5-15meters wide) where pilots are standing when they are flying. The main reason is safe communication between pilots. I have been wondering about this for a long time, but now I have to ask

We're louder.
I would assume that it was originally set up that way to help prevent the radio issues that could be caused with several radios close together... pretty much a non-issue now... plus... we're louder. We just yell deadstick, landing, whatever....

I always thought the same thing. At our field when a couple of us are up we stand together and can communicate much easier. Common sense really

Funny 66Stang!!! Every field should have showers like the 'Nall @ Tripple Tree, eh? --- LOL
But seriously, I've allways wandered the same thing.... I'm with you on this, hovas... my club has 4 to 6 flight stations on the average set up about 60 feet apart, and for the longest time, it was only one person per flight station, and 3D pilots and team formation pilots just couldn't get their groove on with no communication..... I made a motion at a club meeting that passed to allow multiple 3D and/or formation flying pilots in a singular flight station.....so now, we can either move the stations side by side if we have a big group, or we can double/triple up in a single flight station....Figured this was the best comprimise .... and it seems to be keeping everyone happy so far... even the club elders... |
