I have not heard of any issues doing this, but what I did on mine is remove the old servo bays and place one in the middle since mine is uncovered. Hope if works out for me, have yet to fly it.

Another way to remove weight on these planes is the motor box hardware. They include a metal L bracket for each side and many nuts and bolts to attach it. I would toss it. I simply put 3/4 inch triangle hard balsa in all areas and the strength is incredible. Check out my build thread for the pics. Hope this helps. There are many ways to lighten these planes even more if weight is an issues, but I imagine you will be fine either way.

Thats the thing about the single servo. If you dont make a new mount and you use the inner bay its a long wat to the tip. Im not worried about the servo. I'm worried about flex. Over time how long are the glue joints going to hold up on these arfs.

Yea, but apparently Greg is having zero issues with his being on the inner servo slot. I was not comfortable doing that on mine, so I did the mod. I also know Bob Sawyer is throwing the sticks on Gregs, so IT MUST be strong to compensate for his flying, FOR NOW.......

well... i am using a 5955 for the wings... so i guess i will just stick to 2 for the wings.. i think even distribution of torque is imp to prevent flexing... and i will have a look at the motor box and see if i can toss the metal brackets.. i might go with the idea of the balsa triangular blocks....

and yes 3W... they are the BEAST!.. well i have no idea wat elevation i am at here...but i know my 3W which wasnt tweaked could not really pull out of the hover for my 31.4# extra by CMPro... crappy plane... heavy as hell... but i know it will rocket this new yak...

You could go with Kavan tires which will drop another 4 ounces or so from stock tires. Another guy on here did a build on a Pilot airframe and tried to get it as light as possible by just replacing hardware. I cant remember what the total weight loss was, but it was a nice drop in weight. Good luck....

Drew
gosh im guessing 6.6pounds with mufflers...its heavy... but a great engine!

Oh, im sure its a power house.

For batteries, I am running Li-Ion Fromeco packs with regs. I bought them for my old Yak right before I sold it, so I will run them. I eventually will go to Li-Po's and a Smart-Fly Turbo Reg. Oh, and good idea on the soda bottle. Very easy to do and drops a little more weight. Post pics while you build if you can.

i will as soon as i get home.. still have another 30 days more on this damn rig.... cant wait.. will post as many as i can... ur batts arre 2600mah or 5600mah?... i was told 5600mah is heavy and overkill but on the other hand i was told to use them and a powerbox as well... i would really like to use just a reg to the rx and 02ea 2600mah li-on.. will tat be enough?.. or am i asking for trouble?..i usually fly lets say 5 flights per flying session

I always recommend people to use two RX's if possible and two batteries for failure reasons and split the plane in half so if one RX fails, you still have the other to get the plane back. Two switches and regs also....

On the batteries, I am running the 2600 packs which is plenty for me. I could get around 4 flights a day on them in my previous plane and that plane had more servos, two per wing. I have never used a power box, so I cant comment on them. Some one else will Im sure.

Drew and Joe the single in board servo in my set up works awsome no fade or blow back at all tracks true and snaps when its called. I am as well as Sensei (aka Bob ) using the JR 922 recevier with two 2100 mah lipos at 7.4 volts with no regulators and I get 5 flights out of them with a little extra spare to fly but I feel 5 flights with out a recharge might be pushing it. the 8711 servo with the right linkage set up works awsome just ask Brett after his 5 flights it was dialed in dead on and I tottaly love this plane. The 35% extra 260 is set up the same way but I am using the spectrum regulators and 2 fromeco 5400 mah batterys and everything seems to be great with that plane too Brett is just about done with that plane too. Drew yours should be awsome when you get it done but I can tell the 260 is nothing like the Yak you just got rid of it lands a lot hotter that the Yak does but snaps a lot faster than the Yak. Oh Fonze I did the bottle fuel tank in mine as well I will try to get it's weight for you this weekend.

well i only have 5955 for the ailerons so im gonna go with 02 for each wing
i think i will setup the RX to a dualsky reg with 02ea 2600mah Li-on then see how the batt works for this... and how long before i need to charge it... if not i will just use the powerbox and 5600mah batts
