Default Muffler sealant in oz

Hey boys.

I'm setting up my first 50cc gas engine and have the chinese canister with what looks like a Stainless Steel flex header and nylon joiner. The fit between the flex pipe, joiner and pipe is not really a push fit but when the clamps are on it feels snug. I think that it will be better if I seal it somehow. What is obtainable in Australia that would suit? Do I need something high temp?

Michael.

Dow corning RTV 736 is the stuff you want. Can get it from any blackwoods store.

Mine had a little weep, so I just used a hose clamp. Problem fixed.

I use the red loctite high temp gasket on my 100cc and also on my baja buggy, handles the heat with no issues.

Yep. The spring clamps dont quite do the job. If you used sealant they may be ok. I could not be bothered pulling it apart to applie sealant.

My 2 cents...
I've never had to use sealant for any of my planes...
If you use the Teflon couplers you need to seat the coupler properly or it will leak like a siff..
You need to heat the coupler up to running temp by running the engine at idle to 1/3 power(no more) for a
good ten minutes....then let it cool completely before its next run.
If you follow this process and you are using quality couplers and spring clamps it wont leak.

I found that regular worm drive ring clamps crush the header and coupler out of round..

This is what I have found in my experience

I think technically you are right. Worm drive hose clamps do not supply a constant tension. If the materials give over time, the tension decreases where the spring clamps maintain the same tension regardless of the size of the hose underneath. I guess that's why all cars now use this type of clamp.

If you are trying to keep a coupler to a SS header, then I would suggest using a couple of servo type screws to keep the coupler from blowing off, as well as using the spring clamps.

As far as a sealant???? I cannot comment on that...... But suggest to wrap the flex part of the header with some pipe tape. That will halp keep the flex from leaking.
