Default Clik Profile Gasser

I finally flew my scaled up Clik, today. I couldn't be happier.....flies just like its little brother. Its not exactly scaled from the foamy.....but its really close. About 76" span with 1380 square inches of area, 84 inches long. DLE-55 up front for power. It weighs in at 13.5 pounds. It flies really nicely....smooth transitions with no wing rock at all. Tracks very precisely, too. I have 3 15 minute flights on it so far, but can't wait for more.

Your giant scale Clik looks great. Some video would be great if you get a chance. I bet David Kyjovsky would get a kick out of seeing his design scaled up to this size.

Thanks, guys. Its hard to imagine someone nowadays that doesn't own a video camera.....but I don't. I'll see if I can enlist someone to come out to the field that does own one.

I'm a cnc programmer/operator, so I drew everything in autocad, but used Alphacam as a post for some of the stuff. I did use Profili for the wings, though. Now that I know this thing flies well, I'm going to try to get everything (drawings and code) together so I can make a bunch more. There are a few guys here that seemed interested in building one. I started this last winter, so I have files everywhere on probably 5 different computers. I should be better organized with my stuff. Half of the parts were made on a Thermwood, and the other on an Onsrud....so I need to gather the raw drawings and put everything together.

A full fuse would look pretty cool.....but the profile flys so sweet. I can do a half ass knife edge loop on low rates with 15 degrees deflection....lol.

I'm gonna try to get it dialed in by next weekend. It climbs out inverted a bit right now....so I'm gonna make some longer standoffs to move the cg forward a bit. Pitch couples to the belly a fair amount , too....but that will come around when I get the cg right. I'll get the thing trimmed out well, then try to get some video.

Got in a few more flights today.....got the cg right, and the pitch coupling is gone on the left and just a touch to the canopy on the right (weird). I didn't have my hatch cover on on the right wing ....cause I left it at home....and I'm wondering if the 3 x 3 hole in the bottom of the right wing is doing something weird, since it would be more exposed on a right hand KE. I should have put some tape over it. I'll find out soon enough. I mixed throttle to rudder to compensate for the 0 right thrust.....ala Chip Hyde.....and that sorted itself out easy enough. Maybe ten more flights and I'll have everything like I want it.....maybe.

Coupling can be different to the left or right because of the propeller. The small amount of slip means that the blade traveling down sees more airspeed than the one traveling up. Or it could have been because of the hatch.

In any case, awesome airplane, and kudos for trying this.

how's the fuselage constructed? Is it just standard trusses, and sheeted? or is it more like the plywood box construction on an omp hybrid, or similar model?

The fuse is just 1" blue foam sheeted with 1/8 ply and then swiss cheesed to remove about a pound of material. I have hardwood blocks where the landing gear mount and two 8" hardwood blocks extending out of the front that the firewall keys onto. It's a little heavy compared to other methods, but I can put one together in a few hours by cutting the parts on the cnc router and vacuum bagging the stuff. I tried to keep it as simple as possible, but it hasn't seemed to hurt the performance. Everyone that has seen it fly comments on how precise and smooth it is....it's nice. I'm gonna try to cut some foam core wings this weekend to see if I can knock those out quick, instead of the built up wings I'm using now.
