Default How do you become regional champ and beyond?

I know winning but is it just the top 5 contest in your region and who ever does best? Do you have to compete in the regional final? and if you are the regional champ per say is there a contest where all of those people get togeather?
I have looked on IMAC's website and cannot find the answers.

thanks

2009 IMAC rules state that you receive 1,000 points for first place at an IMAC contest, all places 2nd through whatever receive points based on how well they scored in their sequences compared to first place.
So, after the points are normalized. lest say the 1st place guy wins every round and finishes the contest with 5,000 points. Then 2nd place was always right behind him, closely, and finished with a score of 4950.
In this scenario, 1st place would get 1,000 points toward the regional standings and 2nd place would get 990.
At another contest, lets say there are only two contestants in a class and the 1st place guy, again, sweeps it with 5,000 points, but the other guy struggles all weekend and only get 4,000 normalized points.
In this case the first place guy would again get 1,000 points but the second place guy would only get 800 points.
So, essentially, the points you receive for placements less than 1st are based on how well you scored compared to the first place guy.
I am pretty sure the regional points championship are based on your best 6 finishes at contests you attend. This year, you do not have to attend the 'regional championship' contest in order to have a chance at the top spot in your class. If you already have 6 wins you are pretty much good to go.
I don't know what they would do if two or more people in your class had 6 wins. This would mean that you would all have 6,000 points. I would imagine that they would look at how badly you beat your peers. In other words, the final results would be based on how low the points were of the 2nd place guys you beat.
As far as a place for all regional champs to get together, the Tucson Aerobatic shootout is about as close as it gets. Qualifying for it requires that you are among the top in your region. In a perfect world, this would be where the real stand out pilot is detemined. Unfortunately, the economy being what it is, not everyone can afford to attend the Shootout.
