Blythe CA would be the best. This would be in the middle of San Diego, LA, Bakersfield, Las Vegas, St George, Phoenix, and Tucson.
We were confirming the AZ contest schedule today. Jan at EVA, Feb at Mesa ama field, March at Sun Valley, April Tucson. 2010 is going to be a good year.

It really depends on a few factors....
Is weather a concern? Do you need to work? if so what line of work? Do you want to practice with other IMAC flyers? Do you like having access to local hobby shops? What other entertainment activities do you want available to you? If IMAC is the only concern and nothing else matters, then I'd get a nice RV and experience all the different cities. Pedro. |

Darren, The two major contest areas (this from a first year newbie) are Phoenix-Tuscon and Southern California (San Diego-Santa Maria). From either area, the other area's contests are a 5-8 hour drive. There are several Northern California contests as well (within 2 hours or so of San Francisco) and a strong group of IMAC'ers that made most of the SW contests.
For me, Southern California is hard to beat. We live in San Juan Capistrano and are within easy reach of 4 or 5 contests (1-3 hour drive). Temps are great year round, and we basicly live where millions go to vacation. The IMAC group here is a little spread out, but we made a number of new friends from the area at contests this year. Phoenix and Tuscon are great areas, too. Housing is cheaper, but their summer temps get up there. The IMAC crew from that area is first class. I never made it to Colorado or New Mexico, and it seems that there are fewer contests in those areas. Haven't mentioned Vegas, but that would be another area that normally is close to a few contests and is within reasonable drives to the California or Arizona contests. There are major differences among the SW metro areas in housing costs, weather and available activities. You'll need to do some research (and maybe a trial trip or two) to see what works for you. Hope this ramble is of some help! Bill |

Hey Rob!
Your offer is to kind, I'm sad to say that the wife and I haven't been to EVA yet! The offer sounds great though, just might have to take you up on it, JK! We will be in town Wednesday night and having Thanksgiving dinner at Cracker Barrel. I hope to meet you at the field so please introduce yourself if you find me first. After the flyings done maybe we can share a MV (Monster Vodka)! Regards, Randy Dreyer ---------Basic class newbie |
