Today, July 28, 2009 is the 2 year anniversary of the loss of one of the greatist Pilots to ever take to the Sky. On July 28, 2007 Jim Leroy was killed while performing Code Name Marys Lamb at the Dayton International Airshow. Two years later we still really dont know what took place that day, only that we lost a dear friend. I am starting this post as a memorial to him , and simply ask that if you have photos of Jim, or any stories you would like to tell about him, please Post it here.
God Speed Jim Leroy, You are not forgotten, you never will be.......... James R. Freiberger Sr. |

Jim was a huge help when I was redoing my H9 Ultimate about 5 years ago. He was always a pleasure to talk to and the best show I have ever seen. Thanks for everything Jim. You are missed.

I have not forgotten him either. One of the great legends (along with Bobby Younkin) that I will never forget. They have brought a lot of inspiration to me....

Last Year at Airventure Jims Name was added to the memorial wall at the EAA Convention Sight in Oshkosh Wisconsin. I was there on that Sunday morning and saw a very touching gesture that I will never forget. Every year when the names are added to the wall part of the Ceremony is that taps is played while the Aeroshell team flys by and performs the Missing Man Formation. Well when taps played and everyone is remembering their loved ones and getting misty eyed, I hear the sound of engines coming and look up expecting to see the Aeroshell team, but it was Matt Chapman, then Matt Younkin in the Twin Beech, followed by Greg Koontz, and finally a Piper Cub all with full smoke on Single File. After that the Aeroshell team showed up and did the customary missing man formation. To see Jims Peers flying by to show their last respects for their fallen comrade is somethign that I will remember the rest of my life.... |
