you will find many glow engines that were converted to spark ignition. [ spark plug ] cant do it with a glow plug mate.

I've seen several with spark plugs.

You would never know it up in the air unless the guy told you or you saw the engine on the ground.

They run more consistently

i'm looking for a lower fuel consuption on helis... because of that i'm very interested on it
here in my country, a cool power 30/22 is hard to pay US$ 80,00
my heli is a 90 class so i finish one gallon in just a single day of trainning $$$$$

i tried a zenoah 26 gasser on it but the performance on manouvers is far poorly

i bought a spark plug 1/4 for ignition with the same screw of the normal glow plug

thanks for all

best regards
Marcio

It is becoming all the rage with the large pattern planes, there was an article on it in a recent Model Aviation, but old age limits my ability to remember when it was.

The Y-S 170 DZ is not available off the shelf to us commoners with spark ignition but some of the pattern guys are using it and the spark ignition may or may not be supplied by Y-S?

They run fine with a spark plug. You can stay with alcohol or go with gasoline. Just need to keep the oil content right because most glow engines do not have bearings on the con rod.... There used to be a guy down near Phoenix who was running OS 4 strokes on glow fuel w/ignition and he was meticiculous about logging every flight. He had several engines with several hundred hours on them..

Maynard Hill broke all the distance records with an O.S. fs61 converted to ignition. He crossed the atlantic with that setup. You can read about him at the online AMA site.

just done a thunder tigre 50 in a heli to cut the fuel consumption down. running oil ratio at 20 to 1 because of tha plain bearings in the con rod. easy to start and will idle till the tank is dry. you will be down a little on power. no more 10 mins, flights, now 25 mins. alex
