After a year I have "rebuilt" 3 Saitos installing new bearings from RC Bearings. All 3 engines now spit oil on the top of the left wing (cylinders are sideways along the right wings). Additionally they are all leaking oil from behind the prop mount. The front bearings are all rubber sealed on both sides. My 100 was the first engine and after a month I decided to open it up again and even replaced the month old bearings with a new set but they leak out the front as well. Is this normal...or...What am I doing wrong?

Bill are you sure that the fuel on your left wing isn't just coming out of the breather pipe on the bottom of the crankcase?, also Ive had trouble on one of my saitos with fuel leaking out around the front, it turned out the bearings seal blew off because the breather pipe was cranked over so it basically caused so much pressure to build up in the crankcase, the seals gave way, Ive also experienced bearing trouble, this stopped after i started using after run oil at the end of each flying session, and really working the oil into the bearings....Ive gotta admit Ive had 4 saitos now, 2 82's,1 125 and 1 180 and all had there problems, Ive stopped buying them personally and have gone back to O.S

i would double check the breather tube and make sure that it is not restricted, also pull the crank case cover and even blow through the tube to make sure it is ok. i've had a .82,1.00 &1.50 and other than a damaged needle in the .82 they have been flawless engine. my 1.50 had about 12gal through it and ran like a swiss watch. the only time i used after run oil was during winter storage. or maybe since it is happening to all your engines after the bearing change there is a issue with the bearing manufacturing.

All the Saitos I have owned never showed this kind of problem. Between my Dad and I the count is way up there. Twins and singles but they were all older I am sure. In fact only three or four were purchased new.

The Saito engines are a good value for the money, the Saito engines I own all run well, the two 125 engines will need bearings soon after 3 flying seasons. I too am looking at OS engines, I like the new 110a, but if you are going to keep any of these engines and go to the trouble to rebuild them you must consider the cost of replacement parts. A quick comparison of Saito parts listings and then OS parts listings might be educational. I like the OS engines a lot. I believe the Saito's are a little less expensive in the long run.

you say the front bearings are rubber sealed on both sides ? does this mean the front bearing has the factory oil seals on both sides ? if so , how would you expect this bearing to get oil into it ? you Must remove the inner oil seal from the new bearing . most supplied bearings are pre greased and sealed but how long does the grease last when spinning high rpms with methanol based oils etc etc . take out the inner seal.
