Default Travelling to The States for the TAS - Advice needed

Hi Guys,

I will be off on Holiday to the Reno Air races ( since no Red Bull this year ) and thought i would extend my visit to one of the best giant scale aerobatic contest in the world, the Tuscon Aerobatic shootout. I have never been so was hoping people that have been could point me in the right direction with regards to cheap stays, trasport, what to bring etc. I`m not compeating, just admiring and will probebly cover it in my Bi-monthly Airborne column, Park Pilot.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Garth,

There isn't any transport to the field (that I know of). There is normally some catering available, but it can be a little limited in selection. It's normally a little cool in the morning but warms up nicely during the day. So wear a hat! There will of course be the obligatory windy day!! The Aussie contingent will be at the Timpa field from Tuesday on.

We stayed at a motel off West Ina Rd. I think it was the Holiday Inn or something. Its pretty close to the field, about a 15 min drive.

Sorry make that North Cracker Barrel Rd (off North Cortaro rd). There is a couple of hotels there that are pretty good. There is also a couple of places to get a feed.

It's 5 days!! She will be impressed!
It's a really nice drive to the field. The missus will love it.
The first few days of the comp don't have too many spectators. The weekend is a different matter.

Thanks again Richo ! Haved looked at the DA usa site for info but it is catered for competitors ( understandably ) so just trying to get a feel for best plan. So if i just did the weekend that would be the best i guess ? Want to keep it interesting for us both. Shes a great pilots wife.... messures up the tails to glue in, get into the fuse to highten bolts etc so i dont want her to come away.... dissappointed. I made the mistake early on by taking her to a full scale event that sucked so she was kinda like... See you later enjoy ! Not another fly by by a Cub lol

2nd what he said about some warm clothes for the morning, last year we went to the field for the pilots meeting in the afternoon and it was like 102, went back to the field the next morning at 7:30am and it was only 39 !!!

Hope to see everyone there again, submitted the entry forms for Brendan and waiting for the 18th to get here to see if he is on the pilots list.

Thanks Richo, Brendan will be flying his bew Dalton MEL this year, has 3 contests on it now and is loving it. The field of pilots in all classes are tough competitors, will keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Waiting now for the pilots list to be posted to see if we made the cut or not, if we do it will be good to see ya when we get there.
