Default Control horn recommendations

All, Sorry if this has been hashed over in the past. I tried the search function and found only one post as a result of searching on "control horns" and it did not have what I was looking for.

I have been flying RC for quite some time. But I decided to take on my first large scale recently.

The plans for the plane can be found here:http://www.rcmplans.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=1895

What I would like to know is what kind of control horns would be recommended for this plane? I think I would like to use a pull-pull system for the rudder. But what size arm do you think is necessary?

Where would be a good place to purchase these horns from?

I found some interesting stuff at the Central Hobbies web site including a very nice tutorial on how to install their horns. But they specify that these are optimized for pattern aircraft. I really don't like the idea of spending $40 or $50 on a bunch of stuff only to have it not be the right stuff.

I have no LHS that really carries any items specialized for large scale.

Any thoughts? If this has been covered before, again I apologize. Please point me to that info.

Thanks,
Joe

The currant hot setup is to use CF of EPF horns like these. http://www.extremeflightrc.com/image...s/hardware.jpg
I suppose you could order a complete Hardware package from EF but if I remember right they use metric threads on their ball links. Workable but not interchangeable with American 4-40 hardware.
Airwild offers a hardware package with EPF horns and Dubro hardware.
There's a huge selection of options, the trick is to find as much stuff as possible from one place or you are paying shipping charges from all over the place. Usually I wind up having to get lots of little things from Tower, they just have an unbeatable selection of hardware.

I prefer the EDF horns too. You can get the Dubro horns but I don't like the fact that the horn flag can rotate on the bolt (except the rudder). The EDF horns are very rigid because the two horn halves sandwich the ball end. I've seen aluminum versions of this but I like gluing in the phenolic ones. The EDF are very light too.

I would bet that Extreme Flight would just sell you the horns.

I should mention the only disadvantage of the phenolic horns: The heights cannot be adjusted like the Dubro ones on a threaded bolt. This would only be an issue on planes that you have to gang multiple servos. On yours it's not an issue.

Extreme Flight RC will sell you just a set of the control horns. I recently purchased some from them.

EF's control horns are very similar to Cardens. But they have 2 holes instead of 1 and cost 1/2 as much!

Thanks for the info guys. Metric threads are not really a problem for me. In fact that may ake it easier. All of my heli's use metric hardware.

I am sure EF has really awesome airplanes. But let me gethtrough this one first.

Thanks again all,
Joe

I knew you were and I will be sure to let you know how it goes.

I checked out their web site last night. They do have some really cool stuff. But I couldn't find the horns listed anywhere on thier site other than the pics that Altavillian posted a link to.

Do I need to call them to order those or am I missing something?

Thanks,
Joe

Yeah I'd just call them and do a phone order. I too have troubles finding their odds and ends stuff. It may be for sale but not listed.
