Sad but true. Boeing layed off a large amount of there engineers and personnel to streamline their operation and spread the liability . They also decided to farm out most sub assemblies to sub contractors and vendors. Met one of there old engineers and he was devastated.

How can you keep a good handle on production if you have to rely on other peoples work and work schedules ? to much room for errors and delays!

Very true, it's always cheaper in the short term to farm stuff out according to the accountants but it usually ends up costing you in the end. I used to work airline maintenance and lots of stuff was getting farmed out to the lowest bidder, it's actually nice to see a few places start to bring the work back in house now.

Now that's funny!! I live in the land of Boeing and they just laid off about 350 more folks. They thought they had a better idea moving everything out of Seattle. I guess they're paying for it now. Soon no one will want they're planes because they can't be trusted to meet deadlines. Just a case of being more interested in improving their bottom line then satisfying their customers.
