maineflyer,

Thanks for the input, greatly appreciate it,

My brain is on overload trying too cypher this all out.

As far as what i think I'm going to do for right now is run the ignition on a separate 4.8 nimh pack and switch. As most ignitions are better suited at this voltage, and i do not want too run the risk off ignition interference to the reciver. Let us no how the test come out with the ( IBE from troybuilt )....
I know that Ill be using A123's..

thanks

Not a problem, You can get a Cellpro 4s with a JR lead for charging if you like to charge through the switch... Just an FYI. Good luck with the plane.

Def put that DA50 in that PAU. YOu will like it.

I'm not a fan of A123's becuase you can't check the batteries between flights so you have no way of knowing if the battery is about to take a dump. And charging only tells you what you used, not how the battery acts under load. They can handle some amps though.....its all choice.

I still prefer LIONs and use SF power expanders. On my 50cc I use MPI regs (standard ones not adjustable) but I know most FG members are using the Fromeco Sahara type regs. More money and more weight but I can check the batteries anytime I want and know that they can handle an amp draw.

Still there are many users of A123's as well. With the batteries being so new we probably won't start seeing the failure of them for another year or so as the batteries get closer to the end of their life cycle.

The real problem is lack of experience on my part. I believe I have the muffler problem under control. It didn't come loose from the engine. The engine came loose from the Firewall. No amount of locktite is going to keep the tabs from breaking.
As far as the YD/A is concerned: I think it will be a good and competitive engine with a few modifications. I was told the first DL's had the same problems. The YD/A has better bearings and cylinder design then the DL. I'm not giving up on the engine. Just waiting for a fix and mine replaced. They stand behind them 100%.
The Pau Extra is different. It's my Baby and only proven equipment is going in there.
Probably a dumb question.. But did you use the high temp loctite?

Matt

ive been using a123's all summer about 130 10min flights and they are doing great. 2 1100mah for my 50cc bird. they are rated for 1000 charge cycles if i remember correctly. they are supposed to outlast lipo's and ions. we will see though but they have been in power tools way longer than we have been using them.

No I didn't use the high temp loctite. I did use the red however.
This engine only had two square nuts with about 5/32 of thread to hold the bolt. That was the real problem. That is not enough to hold a muffler screw. Just a bad design. The DA has 4 times as much thread to hold the muffler therefore it's not a problem. It is going to be a good engine and worth the extra effort. $365 and runs a 22-8 Xoar at 7,400rpm with 32 to 1 Pennzoil. Not broken in yet. Looking for another 200 rpm with synthetic and the same prop. It's in my P-47 to stay.
I'm looking for a good deal on a DA-50 for the PAU Extra. If I can't find one by spring then my Yak is going to be minus a DA-50.

Seen a bunch here in the Swapshop over the last few weeks. I'm looking for a smokin deal on a 3W55 for my PAU Su-26 to replace the one I put in the 47. If I don't find one after Xmas I'll just order a new one I guess.
