Just remember if you do get some kind of kit, I do custom building for people.

Do you take installments John? Like maybe 40 bucks a month.

lighter can still be strong guys. in fact, light can be stronger than a heavier counterpart with proper design research and product inclusion. there are newer, lighter, stronger materials coming to market daily. the future is in this type of project!!!! Bob... i know you'll have a winner with this one! i look forward to hearing from you.

Well I spent yesterday afternoon in Houston with a good flying buddy, and did not get home until around 2PM today, so I did not get alot done today; just some finish work on the motor box so I can get it installed tomorrow. I hope to have more to show for tomorrow evening.

Bob ... i can see eight holes for the motor mount, four of them are doweled... is that intentional?
The box sides are absolutely….”open” would this hold up to engine torque, specially at idling/starting?

Regards
riz

I used Bobs motor box design as well in my 35% for a DA-85 and I can tell you, its much stronger then anything Ive seen on a plane before. With the added tri stock, its super solid.

The reason you see extra holes is because I moved the engine over more to compensate for the right thrust built into the firewall.
It will do just fine,I have been doing it that way for a while now and have no issues to date.

It as been a long day but I finally got the motor box, gas, and equipment tray finished and installed on the fuse, this puts the weight at 4 lbs. 4.3 ozs. when I built the 40%, it weighed 2 lbs. 10.3 ozs.

Bob

PS Thanks for the help today Mike.

On the seventh picture (I assume landing gear block) is that a different type glue used than the CA you normally build with? Is this so you do not need to run aluminum to tie the gear in?

Airplane looks amazing, if this is kitted I will for sure get one and know of two others I fly with that are very interested.

I still used CA to glue this piece in, the material you see is actually solid oak landing gear rails, thats the reason for the color difference. Also this is much lighter than aluminum angle unless you perform an abundence of machining to the aluminum.
Currently the plan is to kit this airplane if everything works out.

Sweet! Coming along good there Bob. Cool idea to use hardwood for gear instead of angle aluminum stock. Awesome as always.

Didn't the 35% extra and some of the Lazers get the same treatment? Why change what works.
