khedge...

look into ordering smart fly equalizers if you aren't a fan of matchboxes. this will allow the ail's to be plugged into just 2 channels and the elevator and rudder into only one ea as well. this will allow for your 9ch rx to be plenty. the cost on 3 of these shouldn't be more than another rx. if you don't have a 12x that has the geometry setup functions for ea indiv servo, you'll want to be PERFECT at the mechanical protion of the setup (which takes a TON of practice) or you'll want to use a matching system like the equalizers. i would NOT "Y" anything in a big bird. the smartfly products are simple to use and they weigh next to nothing compared to matchboxes.

I have a few of the Smart-Fly Equalizer 3Ds and they are awesome... I just used my first one earlier this season in a smaller 88" yak to be able single channel the Elevators. I'll be putting them on the ailerons of the new 55M too.

remember that if you are using the "3D's" you need to use the jumper to allow more wire to carry the current. if you are just using 2 servos per equalizer, you have no need for the "3D" equalizer.... you would just get the Equalizer II.

Ya, I won them at a couple IMAC contests here, so I tried what I had. I've only been in GS for 2 years now, so I'm still in the stage of trying out new stuff in the planes, and I was really impressed with the equalizers. Not to Hijack Bob's build thread here, but what's a "jumper?"

notice on the EQ3D there are a lot of places for servo leads... well, if you were using a powersystem with your equalizers, you could run a "jumper" wire from one of those lead plug-ins to the same place and channel you are plugging your ezualizer into your powersystem on. this allows for the current to travel through more than one lead for the multiple servos. if you are just using 2, don't worry about it much.

Just remember that if you are mechanically setting up a plane with fairly flexible ailerons you will have to deal with some serious flex issues that may confuse you. When I set up my sukhoi I was driving myself crazy with the mechanical setup until I realized that the surface flexed significantly under its own weight with only one of the two servos hooked up.

You can get away with Y's, but as said before, it can be tricky. I'm doing it on the ailerons of my cap but on the other hand those ailerons are also very stiff and the servos are well set up to move together. I also made custom Y harnesses that minimize the ammount of wire past the Y

sounds good, I plan on using 20 gauge servo wire from servo city. Hopefully those 7950's won't draw too much current.
