Default Real Flight MODS for GS 3D

OK... this is by no means a comprehensive "How-To"... but it is a start on what I do to get a G4.5 plane to fly like a 40%'er.... if'n yuh'all have other tweaks you use with good success... post'em up!!!

I will show the basic steps here. Many of the adjustments can be fine tuned to suit your personal preference... like EXPO and ATV, CG etc.

Just look at the pix, you can see what is highlighted and changed.....

First.... pick a model and bring it into the Simulator..... for example.. an EXTRA....

Then click "AIRCRAFT" and then "EDIT EXTRA 300L"

In the window that opens, click "OPTIONS" and make sure that "DISPLAY ADVANCED PROPERTIES" is checked... if not... click it...

Then... on the feature tree on the lower left of the edit window, click the top level item... in this case... click on "EXTRA 300L" and go to the lower right panel and click on the quantity edit box next to "VEHICLE GRAPHICAL SCALE" and change it to between 200 and 250 percent.....(From 100%)

Size:	184.3 KB
ID:	198822

Next, click on the quantity edit box next to "VEHICLE PHYSICS SCALE" and change it to about 150%.

Now, you can click on "AIRFRAME" in the feature tree on the left, and then, click on the quantity edit box next to "CG Adjustment" and change it to what I have displayed.....

Size:	204.5 KB
ID:	198824

Now we can adjust the total throws... lets start with the Horizontal.... click the plus next to "AIRCRAFT" in the feature tree and then expand the "VERTICAL TAIL", the "HORIZONTAL TAIL" and the "MAIN WING".... on the right side, you can see where you can change the values... IMHO, the rudder is already a bit on the strong side, so I didn't change it.....

repeat the process for the ailerons.... these I changed to +/- 45 degrees....

next we must adjust the strength multipliers for the wing, fuse, horiz and vertical... or the plane will be fragile and sometimes break apart.....

Now we will tweak the prop a bit.....

under "FUSELAGE" on the left window, there is "ENGINE"... click this and go over the the right window and click on the quantity edit box next to "PROP VISUAL SCALE (%)" and make it the same percentage as the overall Graphical Scale adjustment made earlier... (222 in this case)

Name:	_131_Prop_graphical_scale.jpg
Views:	38
Size:	58.4 KB
ID:	198832

and lets tweak the "Torque Factor" in the same way.....

Name:	_132_torque_factor.jpg
Views:	46
Size:	58.9 KB
ID:	198833

Now... lets save this modified plane with a new name...

Name:	_14_save_as_new-name.jpg
Views:	30
Size:	234.4 KB
ID:	198834

and exit to the sim to try it out....

you will prolly feel like it is a SLOOOOOOW Pig... for those learning 3D, this is a good setup for getting the initial reflexes... but once you have this down, we can speed it up..... this is how you speed it up the easy way......

click on "SIMULATION" and then "SETTINGS".....

Name:	_16_speed_adjustment-01.jpg
Views:	24
Size:	87.2 KB
ID:	198836

Click "PHYSICS" on the lower left window and click on the quantity edit box next to "PHYSICS SPEED (%)" on the right window and change it to about 125%

Name:	_17_physics_speed.jpg
Views:	27
Size:	56.6 KB
ID:	198837

Now click "OK"... it should be pretty good... you will prolly think the rudder is too much like a foamie... you can go back into the edit menu and reduce the rudder size or ATV if you like.....

One thing... when you go to "MULTIPLAYER".... you will have the slow plane again as you are under the physics settings of the host..... the harder way to get the "PHYSICS" speed correct is to adjust the weight of the planes individual components... (Or just make the fuse really heavy).... then you will also need to adjust the power from the motor......

you can also go into the radio functions and change it to mode 1 or adjust which switch activates DR or smoke blah blah blah.....

Anyway... this was intended to be a quick little tutorial to get the beginner REALFLIGHT 4.5 users quickly to a 40%'ish flying model.....

If you have fussed with this and have other mods you use to get certain qualities... throw'em down in this thread!!!

thanks

Will any of this NOT work in 3.5?

I am pretty sure most of this will work with 4, 3.5 and 3.... the actual menus might look a bit different... but prolly very similar!

It would have been alot easier to just make the aircraft edit then upload it to the KnifeEdge swap pages, then post a link here... But it does show people how to adjust to their preferences.

Anyways, Nice write up!

there are already many fine planes flying on the swap pages... there is a Super Extra that is pretty good... just a couple tweaks to make it better (IMHO).... but this thread gives new users a quick overview of the modification process......

And gave me something to do while I was on my back in pain!! lol

So from looking at the sight and down loading some of the kick butt aircraft I saved them to the custom vehicals on 4.5 and then how in the world do you get them to work? (first time trying this)
thanks
