Default Power HD servos

G'day everyone

I know that there is other Power HD threads and from what I read they seem pretty good. I would just like to know, is anyone here in Australia using them? I would like to know your thoughts on the quality and performance. The servos I am considering are:

Speed @ 6.0V Torque @ 6.0V (Kg-cm) Weight (g)

Power HD 9150MG 0.18 16.0 61
Power HD 9660MG 0.16 20.0 52.4

I know Hobby City stocks the 9150MG, though the other one I’m not sure of. These figures were taken from the Dolphin Co website. Would the 9660MG be a new product? As HC doesn’t stock the 9660MG can get a quote from my local hobby shop as they stock Dolphin Co products, that’s if anyone is interested.

I was thinking on using them in my 30% ultimate, at about $40 a pop from hobby city I thought why the hell not.

Cheers

have a look at Troy built models website. I think they even sell the high voltage version. They claim a lot of people using them.

OK here's my two bob's worth.

I put the 9150's on all surfaces on my Aeroworks 100cc Yak 54. The plane flew fine and would pos. snap OK but couldn't get it to neg. snap properly, it just barrel rolled.
After much flying and discussion we decided it didn't have enough torque on the rudder so I replaced them with 7955's. It was better but still didn't neg snap the same both ways so I replaced the elevators with 7955's and that solved the problem. Then I came across a good deal on some s/h 5955's so I changed out the ailerons just for the hell of it with little noticable difference.
In conclusion, I would still recommend the 9150's for a 50cc plane or for ailerons in 100cc IMAC plane. They are good value for money.

Ok so The 9150 would be pretty good for a 50cc plane. Would they have enough torque for freestyle aerobatics in a 50cc plane? That's what my ultimate is becoming now, it was going to be an IMAC introductory plane which it still will be until i have enough cash saved up for a second-hand 100cc bird i have been eyeing off.

Mmmm wouldnt touch em with a cattle prod!!!

I used them in brand new H9 Showtime that my son Zac partly built and we lost the plane after 5 flights due to a failed elevator servo.

Lucky to find another kit as these are rare in Oz, but this time its getting Spektrum (which are JR) and JR servos only!

Poor man pays twice!

Royster, we have been using the Spectrum DS-821 servos in Jaegas Katana Freestyle plus his Revolver for some time now , without any problems. these [ 5 per plane ] have run off 4.8 volt packs giving plenty of torque and speed so running 6 volts would be even better.

Yep they are great Al ot of the guys on the Profile Brotherhood (site for 3D profiles) swear by them and we have used them in our 3D slab for months and wringed them out with insane blenders and they are still holding up!

Was lucky to get more from the heli boys as they have no use for them.

I have some spectrum DS-821s in my .60 size 3D plane and i flog the hell out of them and they seem to be holding up alright. I was interested in trying something different that's why i am thinking of using the Power HD 9150.

Sorry Mr 3d just to clarify some guys in brissy are using spectrum or Power HD servos in their 50cc planes?

Poor man pays twice!

I tell you it wasn't a good feeling knowing I couldn't do a thing when it locked up! Especially because it was Roys sons Zac's plane. It was a mess, all from one cheapo servo. Not worth the risk.....but if there are people out there having success with them then its your choice.

Spend a lil extra get a lil extra... Poor man pays twice!

I have 9150's in my 30% Extra and they work great! Speed is decent and have not noticed any problems with centering. The speed is a slower than a 5955. But I use a lot of expo. So on the plane with the 9150's I just use less expo and have the same feel.

maybe its a good idea to buy a good servo tester so new servos can be tested before use in a model. also check both case end internals for good solder joints and correct gear to pot alignment etc etc. one other good option is to replace the standard plug wire with some 22 awg twisted wire, its not a bad idea especially if you running tail servos that needs the extra length to receiver without any extension joins and varied wire sizes. i will say any brand of servo has the possibilities of failure , i had a new Hitec [ HS-100] anologe servo in a half -A Pylon model that stopped working at the wrong time [ last heat of qld pylon champs 1989 ] lost 1st place by 2 points, Big Bruce wins again model destroyed. also a Futaba [ standard ] got the jitters on one of my Pattern models, thank god it was on throttle.

I sell some Power HD servos.

More importantly I have tested them to destruction ( stripped gears). That is why I only sell the 9110MG & 9150MG.

The gears seem unstrippable, they are smooth (compared to JR equivalents) work well fed direct with 2S Lipo.

A fine servo.
