Default EXTRA 330L FROM SA

hey all, heres a few details on my wm extra 330l, hopefully test flown tomoro if the weather settles down a lot

ive been trying to get as much weight out of it thru the build as possible, current all up weight is 7.1kg thanks mostly to carbon undercariage, pushrods and tailplane tube, cant get hold of a carbon wing tube just yet, motor is a mt 62, which i suspect is a tad lighter than the g62 the plane is designed for, ive also replaced a few ot the ply parts with balsa-kevlar build up structures.

my goal is to get it under 7kg so im about to cut all the floor out of the cockpit and remove the pilot as that all seems to weigh an alarming amount, in any case its already 1kg+ lighter than the specs claim so im pretty happy with that, a 60cc has to be good for 14-15kg thrust yeah?

heres a few pics

hi AXEMAN
just something i see in pics the rudder pull pull wire is that just going threw servo horn and i gather that is plastic ,The wire will cut threw your horn in no time

And where is the top of your engine box u need that as the motor vibration will break 2 side holding your motor trust me i have seen it .

Last thing what is securing your tank from sliding back hard to see in pics u need a pit of ply or balsa to prevent sliding of the tank back and forth

Cheers Sean

no the pull wires go thru steel ballraces in the horns so no probs there, the ply lid is on the engine box now was off in the foto tho, good call, and the tank is velcroed and strapped infront of the 1st bulkhead which is why u cant see it,

cheers for the concern tho mate, ive seen sum nice planes lost to stupid **** like that aye

looks great. only one thing ? the engine firewall looks to be glued only to the side rails of engine box, its good to use some aluminium angle of say 2mm wall thickness and bolted to each side between box rails and firewall. cant trust glue only with a large size engine.

yeah i looked at that, its doweld and fiberglassed as well, it also has a second bulkead bout 10mm behind the firewall that makes it just about impossible to get in there, would be bout my only real gripe with the kit actualy, so im gona just have to keep on eye on it for now

success! had 3 perfect flights this morning very gusty still up to bout 15knots but even so im over the moon, perfect tracking thru all IMAC stuff, did 3 consecutive BIG loops without touching the yaw or roll. does the steadiest elevators of any plane ive owned, altho it needs every bit of elevator throw to hold it so i might move the CG back a touch, tons of power, takes a tad over half stick to torque roll, il post up a quick vid soon as i can find my usb lead

wow this realy is a great plane for the price aye, tried out the smoke system today, good times, i have one issue with it tho, i cant get enuf aileron to stop it torque rolling, its close but yeah, im thinking the prop could be to blame.

ive seen vids of these planes being hovered, they all seem to be running 22x8s with zenoahs, im running a 22x10 the reccomended run in prop. could that be the prob? is the MT62 likely to rev its nuts off with a 22X8? will i lose any performance? cheers guys, i realy wanna hover this thing on the deck, its so stable compared to my pa 260, im just not confident to TR it real low yet

most planes will never have enuf aileron to stop a torque roll all the time its just a matter of getting use to it and stopping it with throttle, and wind direction plays a big part
as you would have seen with me yak im on the throttle alot to stop it

yeah no i understand that mate, im just wondering whether a prop change could improve it a little, also when u say ur on the throttle to control the TR are u increasing it to boost the flow on the ailerons or what? good luck on the wknd btw
