Default RDRC Fly-for-Tots 2009 Grand Prize Aircraft Build!

September 19, 20th 2009 is the RDRC Fly-For-Tots!

This is an absolutely great event. Every year has been more successful than the year before and for this year we are raising the bar once more.

The grand prize for this year is a completely Turn-Key, Gas and Go... Extreme Flight 110" Yak!

Tickets and all event information is available through the www.flyfortots.com website.

Here is a link for all the event information on FG: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/fg50/45703-2009-rdrc-fly-tots-cant-miss-event-year-fast-approaching.html#post844944

The airframe and ALL components have been donated by very supportive sponsors! I will be building the plane and setting up a base program for IMAC and 3D. Kenny Tillman has volunteered to help with the build. As usual, we'll "evilize" it!

Here's the scoop on the plane and sponsors (I'll update this list as we go):

Extreme Flight RC - 110" Yak, www.extremeflightrc.com/
Desert Aircraft - DA100L, Standard Mufflers, and DA Fuel Dot, www.desertaircraft.com

On to the build!

Friday night Kenny came over and we started unpacking the Extreme Flight 110" Yak... very impressive plane out of the box.

We managed to get all the control horns in, one side of the surfaces hinged, landing gear on, rudder tray in, plumbed the gas tank, and mounted the DA100L!

Yeah... this thing goes together quickly! I said to Kenny a few times... "why do i spend 4-6 months building?"

For the engine standoff's we used 1" round oak dowel cut to 1". For all the hinging and mouting of the rudder tray, I use Tightbond 3.

I'll post some pics later tonight... gotta get back to work!

That's right, folks. Builder extrordinaire, "Evil RC's" Matt Balazs, is donating his time to build our awesome RDRC Fly-for-Tots Raffle Grand Prize aircraft so that whomever wins it will literally be able to just fill it up with fuel and fly it! Thanks, Matt!

As he has shown above, we have the best equipment available going into this awesome aircraft thanks to our gracious sponsors! 100% of the proceeds of the raffle for this and all of our other great prizes will go to the Victory Junction children's camp. And we'll make it easy for you to buy raffle tickets, support this very worthy children's charity, and possibly win yourself this amazing grand prize. So stay tuned to our threads and event website for details.

And watch Matt and Kenny work their magic during this build right here.

So, here's a few pics from last night and tonight.

We finished up the motor box and mounted the cowl. I added some triangle shaped 1/8" light ply pieces to stiffen up the front cowl mount.

In the half pants we added some carbon fiber to keep things from cracking.

Thanks Brian, Wes... I went to FFT two years ago and was shocked at what a professionally run event this was. I have had some great opportunities so far in my life and I feel this is the least I can do to help a great event, and most of all the kids at Victory Junction Camp.

VJC is 1-2 miles from my house as well. If you haven't been there you need to go check it out and do a tour. AMAZING.

Larry, Robert and the crew at RDRC are some of the greatest people to know... truely great guys.

Can I enter the raffle even if I don't fly there? I'd love to make it, but won't be able to.
