Default Nitro Planes 100cc Sukhoi on a DIET

Hey y'all,
I just bought a Nitro Planes 100cc Sukhoi SU-26.
I was reading another thread here on FG by Zed, and he finally finished his and it looks like it flys pretty good for a 32 Lb plane.
I intended from the git-go to strip, lighten and recover this bird to mimic my dearly departed Wild Hare SU-26 that I done up in a Bud Light scheme.
Here is a pic of the NP Sukhoi.

I stripped the fuse down last night and there is PLENTY weight that can be shed !
I'll start by opening up the holes near the rear.
There is solid blocks of balsa that finish the turtle deck around the fin that can be lightened.
And... my gosh.... the equipment tray almost runs the entire length of the hatch.... MOST of that can go.
And I'm sure I'll find other things that can be lightened.
The area I marked on the side for removal is all 3/32 PLYWOOD !
It switches to balsa over the wing socket.
This thing is WAY overbuilt, but I've got a good structure to work with !
This should be fun !

I forgot to mention the price of this bird.
As most of you know, the average price of a 100cc airframe (wood in a bag) is right around $1000.
I saw this "on sale" for $399.
They sold out quick and the news was they were not gonna stock it anymore.
Honestly, I thought it was a typo.
Then they came back in stock, so I said 'what the heck'.
Even found a coupon code for an additional 5% off.
$379 for a 100cc bird.
So I have a little leeway to switch to CF wing & stab tubes (if I can find the sizes... not your standard sizes) CF tail wheel assy... etc.

I LOVE the SU 26 and I think this will turn out to be a fine aeroflopper !

Did you weight it before you started?

I didn't weigh it before tearing off the covering, but I will before starting any surgery.

Cool project, good luck. I bet that motorbox can shed a lb. too. Do you plan on going to extremes like I did on my yak or are you just going mild.? Do you have an idea as a target weight?

Cool deal! I sorta feel the same way about the H9 cap also with its weight. Will you use a router on the light ply?

I saw your project.... not gonna go that wild but I would like the finished plane to be somewhere around 28 pounds.
Yea, the motorbox is porky, I'll post a pic tonight.

I've got a Dremmel and a Roto Zip, so between the two, I should be able to get the job done !

I did just about my entire airplane diet with a Dremmel and standard garage tools. Keep the pics coming....
