Hi Guys,
Whilst I don't have the bits and pieces to finish of my Striker-E design yet I thought I would start work on my next project - a psuedo WWII German fighter. It is not supposed to be anything specific as it has some ME109, FW190 and some of me thrown in to it. This time I am contemplating using foam/obeche or foam/balsa sheeted decking and wings. This method obviously has the down side of being quite heavy compared to a built up structure, but it is quick, reasonable inexpensive and gives excellent results. The design is very much in it's infancy at the moment and is changing daily. It should be slightly more forgiving than the usual point-and-shoot planes I normally fly yet I think it will be very aerobatic due to it's wing profile and large control surfaces. It will utilise the popuplar E-Flite Park 480 size motor/2200mAh 3s pack and may have Hyperion metal retract undercarriage mechanisms (undecided). The span will be 42" and the wing will be held on by nylon bolts. The canopy might prove a little problematical and I might have to form my own. At the moment I am working on the fuselage. I have already determined the wing profile and section (NACA 0013 -fully symmetrical), with 5 degrees of dihedral The tailplane and rudder will be simple flat sheeting. Here is a picture of the current state of my model - you can see that I am working on the canopy and have yet to blend the shape into the rear of the fuselage. Dave |

I've been thinking - always a dangerous occupation. What about turning the design into a Bolton Paul Defiant style night fighter with a rear mounting gun turret. It's a definite possibility and it would be a real conglomeration of different planes. The turret could be linked to and move with the rudder or a totally seperate servo.
I might even add a bomb release. ????? Dave |

Dave, just a suggestion, why not add this to your striker thread, and just change the title to suite i.e "Voltsjager or Volts Fighter/Striker E build thread" Most of the fellas on here are into there large scale petrol 3d'ers so you may not get many responses, where as on your Striker thread, me, you and Dean have been having a bit of banter along the way whilst you put up all these cracking build thread/ideas.
Just a thought mate! ![]() Dave. Last edited by Flyjunkie; 08-19-2009 at 11:07 AM. |
