Kevin..

I looked at the sheet.. Is my score correct?
Shouldnt I have 72 points? 68 + the 4 contests = 72??

Are you going to update this every week after results?
I know a lot of people who hope you do.
We can easily keep track in our region but the nationwide stuff is what we all want to know.

Your score was correct! Here is how you got 60 points:

Don Carmichael :
2nd place out of 6 pilots : 14 + 4 (beat 4 pilots) = 18

JR challenge:
4th place out of 11 pilots : 12 + 8 (beat 8 pilots) = 20

ICMAC :
4th place out of 4 pilots : 12 + 0 = 12

Houston IMAC:
1st place out of 4 pilots : 15 + 3 (beat 3 pilots) = 18

Based on TAS point calculations :

The best 3 out of all contests : 18 + 20 + 18 = 56
Each point for each contest : 4

Total TAS point is 60. Yes, you got 72 points if you add points of all contests but it's not how TAS organizer specified the rules.

"For each contest, the pilot gets 15 points for 1st place, 14 points for 2nd place and so on, down to 1 point for 15th place. Additionally, the pilot gets 1 point for each pilot they beat.

During the time period of January 1, 2006 through July 31, 2006 pilots may fly in as many contests as they like. Only contests in the class entered at the Shootout will count. Example: contests flown as Sportsman would not count toward entry in Intermediate.

We will take their top 3 point rankings from among these contests. These 3 contest points will be added. To this we will add the total number of contests they flew. This is their total season point ranking."

If the CDs can send me the contest result, I can update the spreadsheet very quickly and very accurately. :-)

Wayne,
The right most column of the spreadsheet lists the points that a pilot earns in all the contests that he/she has attended.

Default Re: TAS 2006 Point Standing

Hi Stephen,
Before my program is run, I have to create text files with contest results. The result files are stored in seperate directories based on regions (SW,NW,SC,NC, etc...). I can do it very quicky by cutting and pasting the result from website. The content of result in the text file looks like:

Stephen Hamilton
Michael Jackson
George Bush

When the program runs, it reads Pilot name from the file. First one is first place; second one is second place, and so on.... It allocates one structure (memory) dynamically for each pilot and links them together as a single linked list as it goes. Each structure contains points earned per contest, pilot name, etc... When it finishes reading the files (end of file - feof()), program knows how many pilots are in that contest and pilot placements. It then calculates TAS points based on the specified criterions. Finally, it sorts the linked link based on the TAS points in decending order and display them. It does other things as well but this should give you some ideas.

Writing the program took me a few hours. Including one contest to the point standing doesn't take more than 2 minutes. Sometimes, it takes longer for me to do this when pilots use different names in different contests (David Moser and Dave Moser, Mike Elder and Michael Elders). I have to spot these discrepencies manually and then correct these in the contest result files.

Writing this program is easier than doing a "0 of 8" or "0 of 16" maneuver. :-)

I will try to update the list whenever result is available from now to July 31.

I hope it helps.
