Default Your first R/C plane?

Let's get a thread going of us and our FIRST R/C plane.

I'll start it off with this shot. The year was 1982; the plane is a Sig Kadet Jr.; The engine was a plain bushing O.S. Max .25; Radio was a Circus IV from Circus Hobbies in Las Vegas.

I was 12 years old, and a new member of the SEMO R/C Flyers in Sikeston, MO.

I had a Chinese built trainer cant remember the name but it was 36" span using an OS FP15 run from a Multiplex 4 channel radio bought in Saudi Arabia. Flew like a pylon racer and crashed within seconds of take off. Had to make my own fuel cuz you couldn't buy glow fuel out there. Was banned from several pharmacies for purchasing too much castor oil....they didn't believe what I wanted it for.

I'm so old I can hardly remember. I think it was a small glider, like a bird of Time junior. Balsa sticks and silkspan. It had a cox .020 with the integral fuel tank on a power pod above the wing. Screaming flat out it would barely climb. The radio was a Galloping Ghost, meaning the elevator and rudder twitched back and forth with a little more time spent on one side or the other. The transmitter was a bare aluminum box with a couple of knobs on the front, I don't remember who made it. I didn't so much fly it as make gentle suggestions about which direction it might want to turn next. Given that the engine would rarely hold a needle setting it would often sag or burble the whole flight and cruise around at 4 ft. or less, over the pits, around the cars. Who am I kidding, there were no pits back then, just cars in a field with a mowed runway if somebody brought a lawn mower. I spent hours and hours starting that engine and most flights were about 10 seconds. A really good one was a full minute. Yes, good times...

1974, scratch built a 2 channel glider in a high school aeronautics class. Not knowing a thing about flying r/c, it didn't last past a couple flights but it was my first. I've spent a small fortune since....

The year was 1980 with a Goldberg Eagle 63, running on a KB 40 with a gold top 5 channel Futaba. 2nd plane was a Great Planes Super Sportster 40, running on an OS 45 or 46 abc with tuned pipe. My 1st gasser was a scratch built 72 inch wing span bipe running on a Quadra 45. Not sure of the year, probably 84 or 85. Thought I was so cool! I thought that 18 X 6 prop was huge!

I remember my 1st ARF, it was one of the Indy RC Christian Eagle bipes. Old foam over wood cconstruction.
