OMG!!

I can't believe this, yet another one I never thought would go like this. I met her once at Oshkosh at the IAC center, she was a very nice lady. Sad year this year.

My condolences to her family.

I Googled this, and it sounds as if she died during the contest. Can anyone confirm? For some reason I can't pull up www.iac.org from the hotel here in Portugal (nor could I pull up Wikipedia from here for that matter), so I can't see if anything is posted on there.

It was during practice for the contest, not during the contest itself. From what I understand she was flying a borrowed aircraft, and had some form of mechanical failure leading to the crash.

Ryan,

Yes, she was competing at the time flying the known Q program and it was today, Aug 22 not yesterday.

Yes, Vicki was flying one of the required sequences in this year's World Aerobatic Championships when she crashed. From what I can gather this may be the first fatality during a World meet in its 49 year history. I believe she was also flying a borrowed 540 Edge. I have not heard of any speculation as to the cause of her crash....only that during a down-line maneuver the aircraft continued straight into the ground. Their was no post-fire crash, but as you can image, the aircraft was destroyed.

For those who don't know, Vicki was the 2007 US National Aerobatic Champion, and the president of the International Aerobatic Club.

May she rest in peace.

Its very very sad news to find out about. May she rest in peace.

I've been wondering how many Edge 540 crashes has there been? And how many of them were mechicanical/airfame problems meaning not pilot error?

There have been two Edge 540 crashes in the last 7 weeks, Chandy Clanton and now Vicki. I recently met her at Oshkosh and she was very open and enthusiastic about the IAC and truly loved flying. It's a terrible loss.

RIP Vicki.
