How many servos per aileron are there in the stock Edge 540??? I heard 1 servo per aileron was just for the prototype airplane, but some of you are getting the plane with just 1 servo per aileron... Normally, I'll get mine next month... wish I'll have 2 servo places per aileron....

My plane came with one servo bay per wing. I will be using a HS7955's. Unless I change my mind and go with the 7950 and straight lithiums..???

Go with Mintor if you want more power. But two persons have purchased Mintor 110 here and for half year both of them couldn't understand whi is it regulary dying in flight. They have tried several solutions and manufacturer couldn't advice anything, those engines even were sent for warranty service. Finaly they made minor modification on carburator to install fuel tubing from carburator to inner part of fuselage where pressure is lower. As much as I know both of them are flying for two weekends without any problems. Just leting you know if you go with Mintor and you will have same problem. As we don't have much gas flyers, I do not know how common this problem is with Mintors and other engines. But others are flying without any modifications and extra instalations. **** Little update on Mintors. Well their flying fun is over on first engine original mintor header broke in two halves and that engine didn't have much flights. Other engine started dying in mid air , I didn't get it completely but it was fault of some round part in carbureutor (some Mintor know how) which had turned from vibration. They fixed it and returned to the field later. But still had deadstick with almost crashng their plane in to my car.I do not know, should they update it or it's unique problem, but one thing is clear - they don't have much luck with these engines. classclown: when it comes to servicing, i have to send the engines to the states.other than that, we are pretty much on our own. at least with the states, we have friends or relatives that regularly come and go. i have a DA50 in Arizona right now just waiting to be sent in for service.
freezer: yup, i've read pretty much the whole thread on the mintor. as far i understood, seems like most guys were happy with their engines including those that sent theirs in for updates. the only exception were the two you were talking about and seems to me both had identical setups and could have been a setup issue. going with the mintor doesn't necessarily mean that the same problem will arise because different airframes have different ways of air flowing into the engine bay area. that is also affected by the fact of where you position exit holes and how large they are.all of this affect the variance in pressure around the carb area. this problem could have also arisen with engines other than a mintor. |

Everyone who is building this plane be aware that not every measurement from the Extra 260 manual is not correct to Edge. Like engine mount and landing gear hole measurements.
Get the correct from the plane and you can light yours fireplace or sauna with the Extra manual ![]() I used 65mm stand-offs mount the engine but I had to cut those to 50mm to get the spinner to correct place. Headder drop is about 70mm. Next I had to do the mounts for the ES pipes and weld the headders. Last edited by Kime; 11-08-2009 at 01:55 AM. Reason: photos added |

Correct vertical position is about 30mm from the firewall top edge to the center of upper engine mounting holes. I will take a photo soon. (photo added) At first I put it like in the manual but the spinner/cowling won't fit because the engine is 10mm too low. At the landing gears the cap between the holes is 60mm (in the manual the same measurement is 81mm) Holes should be at the center of the leg, not 18mm from the edge.
