i had the 50cc extra and i though it was one great plane! flew beautiful! had a bit of issue with the covering, but nothing to worry about. if ya really like the the colors then just go for it. you are the only one that has to like it! i would rather have a plane that fly's well than is well covered!
Also had comp-arf's and currently enjoying my EF 110 yak. they are all good planes and we cant all have the same thing cause that would be just too boring. |

I still have my Dietrich Slick. I only had the minor wing issue but the repair is still holding great after many beatings. I don't care for the toughlon covering. It has only peeled loose in a couple places and it was only small trim pieces and just the corners came unstuck. I stuck a drop of ca on a paper towel and quickly wiped it across the edge of the tip and stuck it down. It wouldn't iron back down. I don't plan to sell mine any time soon. It just flies so damn well. I'd recommend it as long as you apply the precautionary "fixes" and go over every inch of it with an iron on low heat before assembling. If you decide to buy one, pm me and I'll give you some tips on assembly to prevent any headaches in the future. To date, it's the best flying arf I've ever owned, but I'm just one opinion.

I had very little issues with the covering. Nothing there to complain about on mine. I've been flying the Dietrich Slick 540 3-4 times a week since May and i still love the way it flies. I've had some good comments on how well it flies at Imac events as well. 3D on this plane is really good as well. I haven't seen a plane that floats much better than this one.
Like R Bossier said there are some little fixes but no big deal. I have two 50cc planes that are not Dietrich's and the covering peals on both and i would not say its a crappy airplane. Its better to hear comments from people that have a Slick or from someone that may have actually flown one. Cheers

I like the way the slicks look. I just want to get my money's worth, not just a crappy airframe or hardware.

Well my opinion on the hardware is different. The airframe is good, but some of the hardware is just not fit to be used. All the pushrods were very soft, bent and broke easily and didn't have full threads. Looked like the O.D. was too small and just barely cut thread lines. I had already planned on using titanium links so no big deal. I did use the clevises and horns. None have broken or come loose in flight to date. I made c/f rods for the rudder in a push/pull configuration to get weight to the tail heavy side, but the pull pull hardware looked good. I used aluminum servo arms that I already had instead of the ones that it came with. I wanted to use an aluminum spinner, but the stock, plastic spinner will be ok. It's pretty thick and has an aluminum backplate. My over all opinion of the plane is good. The construction is ok, could be a little better but nothing major has broken. If you apply all the tips from other owners such as, add extra wing bolt ahead of the aileron/ trailing edge, replace the soft ply rings were the wing bolts seat in the fuse with harder ply, remove the blind nuts from the canopy and replace with 8-32 blind nuts and use nylon thumb screws for attaching canopy to prevent crushing the fuse side, reglue canopy to hatch with good canopy glue, beef up the motor box joints with tri-stock, and add some type of spar or spars into the vertical fin from the bottom about 8 inches up to prevent the fin foam core from separating from the wood at the bottom were it glues to the fuse, you should head off any future problems and have a very rigid airframe. I haven't done some of these myself and haven't had anything terrible happen. I have NOT been gentle with mine. It has been pushed very hard, almost to the point were I expected the wings to fold, but I have yet to just set out to break it on purpose. It will take some serious stress! For the price, it's a good deal. If you set it up right, it'll fly any IMAC sequence as good as you can pilot it, and 3D..........your thumbs are it's limit. I could never bash this plane on the way it flies. Ask anyone that has seen me fly it. For what it's worth, I am NOT sponsored by Dietrich, or anyone else, unless someone wants to send me some cheap or free s
t. LOL! Seriously though, it's a nice plane but just needed a couple design changes that we all had to figure out for ourselves through trial and error. Some of us found solutions to potential issues so everyone else can focus on having fun with theirs.

You might want to look at something like a Aeroworks Extra 260 or a SD models 260

I hate to be a fan boy of any brand. I fly all on my own dime and only talk about products I own/owned.
The AeroWorks planes I have owned have all been great with no issues, went to together like 40 size glow ARF's. I am sure Dietrich planes fly great and can be made to look good with some elbow grease and care. But when their ARF's are just as costly as others... with better fit/finish/materials/hardware/manuals/Customer Serice/etc... I overlook them. Here is a build thread I did with a wing comparison. The Dietrich wings look like a great design on the 75cc Extra I hate to be a fan boy of any brand. I fly all on my own dime and only talk about products I own/owned.
