Default Laser 240v-twin experiences?

Hello!

I'm asking for your experiences on the Laser 240v-twin. The reason is, I am planning to built an ARF Sukhoi 26 (or Yak 54) of about 72-77" inch wing span and I would like to make it semi-scale. I plan to fly classical aerobatics or "Aresti".

So how's your experience, is it realistic to add ductings or baffles in a typical ARF radial cowling to prevent the 240-v from overheating? Or should the baffles be ridiculously large to provide enough airflow to exit the cowling with the 240? So how about side mounted baffles? This would be more scale on a Sukhoi, for instance.

I hesitate to "disturb" Mr Tidey; As asking basically the same questions I got an impression he prefers dealing with scratch builders and not ARF builders..he was kind and polite, though. His remark was the ARF's are just designed for the japanese or Chinese engines, typically.

Another thing, how about the adjustment of the engine? Do you need to play with the needles constantly? Is it a headache to operate?

kind regards

Artto

EDIT:
"..Or should the baffles be ridiculously large to provide enough airflow to exit the cowling with the 240V ? So how about side mounted baffles? This would be more scale on a Sukhoi, for instance."

-> well, I guess I should have used different word here, such as "side mounted grill", or something. I am not a native speaker, sorry.

Further, I also want to emphasize that the customer service of the Laserengines has been just fine (contacted the company again) and I strongly recommend the company and their products.

Well, my 240-v Laser should be arriving in these days; looking forward to firing it up for the first time!

Anybody with experiences on Laser 240 (or other Lasers ) out there?

I don't have one but I'm interested in how yours runs.

I love four strokes and have owned quite a few over the years. Unfortunately they have gotten so high in price I don't see me buying anymore. I have three left after the moving sale I had a while back an I guess those will have to do.

On the good side though there are some strong gas engines out there that cost less up front and way less to operate.

I imagine that this 240 will have plenty of juice for a 6 foot plane !

Hi Zoomer260!

I will post experiences once I have run the engine. One advantage with Lasers is they run well with straight fuel or with just low nitro. They also seem to consume much less than the average Saitos etc. So operating costs are reasonable.

regards
