Hi just a stupid question. Why when ever i see a plane that has been turned off on the ground are the airelons and elevators are in the fully down position????????? I know this a pointless question but it's been racking my brain as my planes dont do it

Exactly. Without power the weight of the surfaces force the servos down.

Modern digital servos often do not have alot of "drag" in the system when turned off so the weight of the control surface often overpowers this low residual drag and causes the surfaces to droop. On really large models, you will also see the elevators droop also.

The mechanical setup is also a factor. If you have your plane set up for precision only with shorter servo arms than control horns the control surfaces will be less likely to droop. The opposite is true for planes set up for 3D.
