Default E-Flite 60 amp ESC??

I'm putting together my first electric and have a H9 Diamante. I picked up an Axi 2820-10 motor and was thinking of also purchasing the E-Flite 60amp ESC with BEC. Would this be a good match? I plan on using a 3 cell 4000ma Lipo pack. Thanks.

Steve,
Sounds okay. The only objection I had to the E-Flite 60 amp esc was the weight. I didn't care for the switch and found out you could clip it off but you had to put heat shrink over each wire. (Don't join them together.) Other than that it's just a preference thing. I did go with a Castle Phoenix in my E-Flite Python just to save a bit of weight and a little space.

you may want to look into the Scorpion 60 amp esc, very good unit and i think its cheaper than the E- Flight stuff.

Thanks. I've looked at the
Castle 60, I think its a 70 or something now. I did notice the large heat sink on the E-Flite and thought it would make it last longer. I don't know if that is a great assumption or not!! Tower sells a couple differant brands and the E-Flite is the cheepest I've found so far. From Horizon they are $85.00. I'll have to look at the Scorpion.

Wango,
What do you mean by heat sink over the wires??

That's "heat shrink." That switch is an arming switch or something. I was told to remove it (saves a little weight) but don't join the wires with solder. Just put a piece of heat shrink over both of them. If you joined them you would in effect be turning OFF the unit. Kinda like a bass-ackwards switch! Taking off the switch just makes the unit like any other ESC..... When you plugged in your battery it was armed and ready to fly.

I get it now. Thanks for the explination. I took another look at the E-Flite and I don't think the new ones come with a switch. At least theres not one in the picture on Horizon's web site.

I have two of them, they are good speed controls and will run 5-6 standard servos without a problem. I have ran one with 6 servos plus a retract servo without any brownout problems.

Thanks.
I'll probably use the Hitec 225's or the digi's "5225's", I think. These are the mini's, so I hope they won't be a problem. I shoud be recieving the motor any time now.

I've been running a 60 Eflite in my Diamante for over a year on 4s with no problem. I have heavily over clocked the ESC by running a 14 x 7 apc pulling as much as 68 amps static (880 watts) on a Power32 . I'm getting 10min flights with huge performance and the ESC is doing just fine. Hitek 225 are fantastic for this plane, don't use the JRSport MN48, they are junk and strip easily. I blew my ailerons servos on my maiden flight by doing a very fast roll. Its a great plane you'll love it !

PS...reinforce your landing gear area...it's very weak and will fail for sure.

Thanks Flyer'
Is the ESC programable for low voltage cutoff? I want the motor to shut off at 9vdc on a 3 cell pack. The Horizon site doesn't say anything about low voltage cutoff. I plan on putting some fiberglass, or carbon fiber in the landing gear area. I hope that will do it.

I agree with 2walla...its as great esc and you can run pretty much anything else of of it that you would need
